@Jensu For me really work as the answer of portable synth that I looking for, hybrid / algorithmic, unpredictable, live looping friendly (because I can load/handle/setup my custom patch from preset management) and mostly I used it like Mutable Instruments Plaits (swell, gamelan, harmonic oscillator, acoustic guitar, kalimba, drone sounds).

I’m getting into it in the same way. Plus, it somehow just seems fun.

Here’s a quick snap of the rig I used for a live dance accompaniment last weekend. The laptop is running Max for beds, samples, and a wavetable synth I coded. The wooden box is a thin piece of plywood on a frame with a contact mic on it for foley-esque work. Really fun.

What are the objects on your Foley box? I keep meaning to make one of these…

None yet – we recorded the performance, which I’ll be happy to share when I get it! I may also make a recording of some of the music; a lot of it isn’t so strong on its own, but I’ll probably take some of the material and finalize it as a separate audio-only work.

Lol, actually it’s for slicing hard-boiled eggs. But mostly I use it as a pocket lyre.

In the pic is a clock chime, an egg slicer, and a piece of shale from Big Sur, along with a 10" snare, the bottom part of the egg slicer (from Ikea), various bells/singing bowls, a splash cymbal, and a harmonium reed (not used on the table). I also have a number of street-sweeper bristles, some bouncy balls, rice, lentils, a glass jar, and a couple vibrating bug toys.

Exceptionally fascinating. I never want to eat a long egg, but the mechanics involved! Wow.

Breadboarded a passive low pass gate, seems to work well so gonna solder one together as compactly as possible

modern LDRs I tried had a very long decay, but a vintage one I got in a bag of misk NOS components I was given sounds nicer so using that. LEDs are superbright white ones

Which came first: the long egg, or the long egg manufacturing machine?

More than twenty characters of spam, I suppose.

What circuit is in the unlabeled box?

It’s a PT chip delay with a feedback / distortion mod I built. Been enjoying building a few pedals recently.

How do you like Tensor in that setup? I’m on the fence – Tensor vs Red Panda 2 vs Count25. Wanting to use it with my Tetrax.

Cheers,

Here is a low pass filter design that I just finished last month. I like to use it with synths, guitars, and drum machines.

Lots of examples on my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vongonelectronics/

Cheers!

the rubber ball on the sidrax is one of my fave tricks! Vibration motors are super cool too!
