My lockdown rig with audio routing below.
Nord keyboard midi goes into octatrack which then sends to everything so I can live play everything and record midi sequences from the keyboard.

got into modular two years ago with the Mother-32 and fell in love with the immediacy of the sound and seemingly endless possibilities of patching. got the happy ending kit from tip-top the following year and havent looked back.

i’m pretty happy with this setup where it is now but i’m currently planning to build a 6U or 9U case once i have more reliable disposable income again. i kinda like only having the skiff available because it makes me choose which modules i use a little more carefully, but it’ll be nice to rack everything up at the same time (i have a mutable elements not pictured) and eventually add some effects modules.

this thread is very inspiring, i love seeing everybody’s different setups!

Nice. My mother32 has got me interested in modular but its a deep and expensive rabbithole that I don’t have time to go down just yet.

Did you have any issues integrating it with other eurorack gear? I remember reading something about moog doing something non standard in terms of the audio signal level or something.

It’s a very nice photo of some very clean gear. I’m guessing you own an air compressor?

i haven’t personally had any issues with interfacing with the modular, i’ve heard people mention things about compatibility issues with pitch tracking but i never had that problem myself. as far as the audio output, everything (ext input included) is run through the moog ladder filter before leaving the system so i found that slightly limiting, as the used line output module i bought on reverb doesn’t work properly which only leaves the moog output to record audio. i think the output level seems calibrated for headphones and i’ve found it’s too hot to run directly through most guitar pedals. in order to get a usable audio level for recording i have to set the volume knob around 9 o clock, otherwise it’s too loud.

Got the essentials home from the studio and set up a #staythefuckhome setup for the foreseeable future.

That all black palette looks good. Where are you getting black 1u panels?

Thanks. They’re from BKM Panels. Good service and nice guy. Some have issues with his Christian views and fish propaganda on the backside of his panels but I don’t mind as I’m a tolerant atheist with more important problems

Thanks. Yeah, they look great, I’ll check again once it’s responsible to use the mail again. Good luck with your stfah setup, looks like a good mix of possibility and structure.

Would love to hear any thoughts on Jena? I actually ordered one the other day, but it arrived DOA - nothing lighting up. So I’m trying to decide whether to order another. Are you using it more as a waveshaper in that system or for something else?

One thing I discovered the other day is that sisters in formant mode self-oscillation is enough to drive the ADC and DAC clock ins on Drezno - might be handy for you in that case.

I’m loving it so far, but it’s pretty confusing and weird, which is exactly why I love this system. That’s weird that it was DOA, sorry to hear that.

Mainly so far I’m using the Leibniz system’s DAC output to sequence the pitch of the Mangrove. Otherwise in this little case, it’s pretty thin sequencing options. What I’m discovering very quickly though, which I knew to some degree, is that it doesn’t take a very complex signal in the ADC Input to really get some interesting results. Right now I’m just using a sine wave LFO and then mangling it through the Leibniz. I thought I’d need/want more complex input from the Batumi/Samara/Cold Mac, but those modules may be considerably more freed up to modulate the Mangrove/Sisters/JF if I use the Dixie as just a simple CV source for the Drezno. Just Friends is just meant for envelope generation, but the outputs of the Leibniz are great for the Strike input of the Optomix. I had a Koma dual VCA in an earlier iteration to have 4 rather than 2 voices possible, but I’m enjoying fewer voices but more complex modulation of those voices in the output.

I do wish there was more documentation and video on the system, but that’d also take a bit of the mystery out of it too and I enjoy feeling like some weird alchemist in a medieval lab to some degree sometimes

Anyway, I love this stuff but it definitely would be a tough system to harness if you’re looking for fine-tuned control. Most people seem to prefer more straightforward sequencing approaches I think and that’s why this XAOC system hasn’t caught on perhaps.

whilst patching up my system I took the opportunity to take a few close ups as well…the inner workings of my brain if you want;)…

Yeah - I feel like I only know what it’s doing half the time, but that is definitely half the appeal. I feel like I’ve only uncovered a fraction of its uses. Most of the time I’m using individual bit outputs to clock a combination of 4ms pingable lfo, marbles, magneto and morphagene. Some fun stuff seems to happen between DAC speed and ADC input wave.

I think I’ll try for another Jena as I really like the timbres in parts of this demo:

Yeah, the only trick with using it as a waveshaper or bitcrusher is it’s a lot of real estate for that. DEFINITELY some cool timbres in that use case though.

Haha nope, just an extremely trusty hog bristle brush! It also probably helps that it was only a couple months new at the time of that photo

So happy with my Onde, sounds like nothing else I’ve had. I’m having the time of my life with the Timber Player script by @markeats and can’t thank him enough for his work on that. @tehn also made these audio reactive lights!!! I love their warm (non-led) glow…
