@zebra I laughed out loud when noticed the leds on both of your EQD pedals are taped over. I’ve a mind to do the same because apparently Jamie likes his lights blinding. :joy:

Those are stage lights

This is the YRM-502 “FM Voicing Program II” from the Yamaha CX5MII-128 running under emulation on openMSX.

I’ve managed to get a lot of functionality working, including mapping a MIDI keyboard to play the FM synth, and mounting a (virtual) disk drive to save and load voices (patches) in the YRM-502.

What I can’t get to work yet is loading voices created in the YRM-502 into the SFG-05 firmware.

I’ve now fixed this / found out what to do by finding and reading the manual for the SFG-05. You simply have to press “SELECT” twice (which maps to F7 on a Mac keyboard) to switch between the factory voices and those loaded in from disk.

As my daytime programming job gets ever more complicated, I find myself getting interested in 35 year old computing technology, particularly MSX systems, which were never really popular in the UK - everyone I knew growing up had a ZX Spectrum or a C64.

A couple of avenues I could take:

  1. Convert to Norns, write a tracker to use the FM voices.
  2. Get the emulation working on a low-cost computer, like a Raspberry Pi. Write a tracker for the MSX.
  3. Actually buy a CX5MII from somewhere, but it would be adding to the pile of gear I already have!

Nice one. I’m running YRM-103 on my Cx5m to edit my tx816 and dx7.

-note on the random mannequin hand: that’s my friend ‘hand solo’ (because its one hand HAHAHAHA). i found it on a table at a mall housekeeping job i had. took it around to various stores asking if it was their mannequin hand. no one claimed it so i took it home, painted its nails, and ive kept it ever since.-

though its rather basic, i like my cozy little creative space. hope you do too! cheers!

What are you using for a stand for your Norns? I’ve been looking for a stand for mine and that looks perfect

hi @bentegz -
its actually just a cell phone clamp (something along these lines) and a dinky little tripod i had laying around! i just clamped it in a way that still left me enough room to use all the usb ports. :relieved:

Lovely setup!
How are you liking the 16n Berlin Modular Edition? Did you by chance also have a regular 16n? Wondering about the differences between them and if one is clearly better than the other.

whoops

Hi! I had the 16n but sold it because i needed to fund sone other gear.

I saw the berlin edition and the wooden case sftef and build one.

They are pretty much the same apart from the jacks on the front panel and the range switches on the back of the board.

Im happy with it
