self made tongue drum with some old piano hammers attached- has a quite nice woodblock type ‘clokk’ sound

Thanks, yes I can understand how people could find it in somewhat poor taste but, even tho our aesthetic may seem incongruous with the gravity of the subject, this project is at heart a sincere reaction to the horror of chernobyl and the outrageous irresponsibly that lead to the disaster. There’s more about the background to it on our blog. if you are interested.

Personally I’ve long been influenced by artists such as Tom Jennings (World Power Systems) and Kenji Yanobe who make quite whimsical/fantastical machine-art which is nontheless based on serious research and ideas about the terrible reality of nuclear disaster and nuclear weapons

All those hypothetical synth names are unpleasant yes, I wouldn’t say those disasters’ place in history or media/culture are at all identical tho and there are many reasons we would not choose to use them but still create the Chernobylizer.

Also to a certain extent we are a Noise band with no remit to be entirely pleasant or tasteful, or to totally avoid ‘dark’ or controversial subject matter.

Latex dries out quickly and breaks. I use a thermoplastic elastomer with the abbreviation TPE that has the advantages of both these material groups (constant thermal moldability - repeated usability - and elasticity). SEBS,stryrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene
(Sorry for the detail and o.t.)

Is this something commercially available in sheet form for small scale experimenters? had a quick google and quickly got lost. Either way thanks for being so open and sharing.

I got it from modulor, Germany. I guess they ship worldwide.

I use the same material for the little drone machine:

Ah thanks for letting me know, it’s a redirect which seems temperamental at the moment. Edited it to the direct link, https://isntses.weebly.com/blog

that PCB design is so cool. with the rise of DIY PCB houses, I was hoping we’d get more of the “pcb-as-art.”

So far happy with this minimal setup : random LFO, resonator module, and texture synthesizer + DIY wooden case

That’s a cool machine you have there. I saw some guys use something very similar looking down in mexico.
Let’s hear it!

w.i.p. : experiment to generate cv signals of volca modular (as sample&hold module) to trigger rings sound with diy drone synth (re-purposed to active it when connect if touch on conductive materials : metal, fruit, plant, etc), then process to eurorack modular granular processor / clouds.

working on a new piece of hardware
A small handful of folks know the inner workings, but I just had to share since getting to this prototype
moment feels like a milestone!

Jamuary’s starting point. An attempt to break out of comfortable habits and limit the impulse to just keep adding more hardware.

I’m calling it YAGNI (“You Aren’t Gonna Need It”).

Dual Wasp crossover filter. DIY on strip board. Runs from a 15v Eurorack DC adapter, regulated to 12v single supply in the board.

I’ve always wanted to work with these, do you have some documentation with them? Mind if I ask your source?

can’t remember where i got them…properly some physics demonstration tool shop. Completely forgot I had them and played with it yesterday.
