They’re janggus - a traditional Korean drum. They sound awesome; two heads combined with two different beaters (gungchae and yeolchae) which you can strike with in a number of different ways means you can get a great diversity of sounds from just the one drum. Here’s a quick intro/demonstration I filmed last year:

More details and pictures would be really appreciated.

Trying a new configuration here with many elements instead of smaller focused setups. Will see if it leads to new processes.
P.s. don’t fear, the chunk of earth poses no threat to the machines.

At last, an iridium rears its fearsome head on lines. May I ask how the granular processor compares with that of the GR-1?

do you… live in a cave?

Completly different sounding machines: iridium granular doesn’t, often, even sounds like granular, a sound of it’s own
And how do they sound beautiful together

Uhm, short answer: yes, of course I live in a cave!

Longer answer: The house I live in is built into a hill with a relatively steep slope. Not exactly like those hobbit-like houses people build, more like a rock fort that emerges out of the hill. The premise of the house was to celebrate the environment by preserving the trees and plants endemic to the area during construction, using the rock from the excavated area to maintain a material connection to the site and using rejected building material for the remainder of the house, and also expose certain parts, hence this chunk of earth.

I realize it’s off topic and not everyone wants photos of their home online so feel no pressure but if you’re comfortable sharing a photo of what the outside looks like I’m very curious. Sounds really interesting.

I am always really interested when houses are designed to minimize the impact on the site and integrating the build into the environment. Very cool! What are the acoustics like in the room with the cave wall?
