really really enjoying the Tracker… still going thru the manual and the videos and have a question for any Tracker users out there.

in this video:

the user seems to be in RED/RECORD mode… yet when he plays different notes or instruments the steps are not advancing.

on my unit, at it seems the default, when you enter a note it immediately jumps to the next line… which is great for speed, but if you’re hunting for the right note or want to try different things out it would be nice if it didn’t automatically jump… like in this video.

is that a setting somewhere? how is he getting that to function in that manner?

thanks…

It’s the “Steps” item at the bottom of the page. Most likely that is set to 1. If it’s at 0, it won’t advance. You can srt that to whatever division you like.

brilliant… thank you!!

while i’m at it… do you know a way to delete a pattern? without manually deleting every event? can’t seem to find a DELETE PATTERN command…

An easy way to do this is:

  1. Go to track 1
  2. Shift + Insert to go to first row
  3. Shift + Up + Up (double tap Up)
  4. Press delete

You can just keep shift held through steps 2 and 3. All up it takes about 1 second once you get used to the key combo.

yeah, that’s what i’ve been doing… using those shift/arrow commands to select every step… and deleting… yeah, it’s pretty fast! just wasn’t sure if i was missing a basic DELETE PATTERN command somewhere…

thanks!

You could also copy a blank pattern and paste it into the pattern you want to clear. Could be faster depending on how far the nearest empty pattern is.

I had this issue for the first two weeks, and Was converting hundreds of gigs of stuff and loading the files Onto the tracker … eventually , after 10+ conversion softwares, I noticed a pattern. Thank god. But for whatever reason , I figured out that the tracker doesn’t read files If they’re directly in a folder , with no subdirectories . If you nest your samples in a subdirctory like “1”, the tracker will load them . Try it !! I nearly broke my brain figuring this out I hope that this will be helpful to everyone dealing with the file compatibility issues … saved my damn relationship with the unit :crazy_face:
Happy tracking !!!

will the beta firmware be available at any point? I understand this is not an open source os or hardware but curious if people know if there will ever be public betas. Im having a ton of fun with mine

You can get the latest beta firmware on their github page.

Just make sure to read this first: https://github.com/polyend/TrackerIssues/blob/master/HOWTO_BETA_FIRMWARE.md

I picked up one of these, anybody else have issues with tap tempo? seems a little wild. I used to use this on my mpc for matching tempo to a loop to make it fit perfectly but having zero luck on the polyend. Seems to hop between values willynilly.

It’s good enough to get you in the ballpark, but I agree it’s a little jumpy. It seems to recalibrate bpm each tap, where most machines use an average over 3-4 taps. I’ve been just two tapping my tempo and adjusting by ear/loop.

question for the more astute Tracker users…
(this is probably super simple)

so…after you slice a sample.

how do you set the Tracker to play the slices across the grid?

that way you can work out a pattern quickly by playing the grid and then record the grid presses into the pattern.

i saw a vid on YouTube do this but for the life of me i just didn’t catch what they set for that environment! :stuck_out_tongue:

thanks for any help!

in fact…
here is the vid…i have it starting right before the playing and recording slices biz starts:

There are a couple of different slice methods, 'Slice" sets markers and then you to select the slice with an fx slot but will allow playing of a slice at different pitches with the grid. ‘Beat slice’ sets markers and will map slices across the grid starting from the corner at the bottom left. Holding record and pressing play will allow you to perform and record live.

I had a rendezvous with the MOD file import. :heart: Except for the volume I didn’t have to change anything. “Walkman - Beams of Light”

1.2 Firmware Release Highlights

Performance mode upgraded:

  • now it always loops on the current pattern to avoid unpredictable results when tracks are switched;
  • the transport bar shows a custom Performance icon to let you know the performance pattern is playing with your chosen effects;
  • ten custom pattern play modes added to remix your patterns while playing;
  • green mode now available to make mistakes during live performance less likely.

The master mixer is now much improved:

  • the Master screen’s got separate page for track volumes, as well as send and dry mix volumes. You can mute and solo all those;
  • for sends, they can now be configured to be pre-fader or post-fader;
  • for tracks, a shortcut exists for this in the Pattern editor screen: press Shift;
  • all volume values are now presented and internally calculated in dB;
  • the master limiter sounds much better now, is available in two flavors, and various clicks and crackles are gone from playback and export.

The song sequencer is now more usable:

  • you can now do new things without stopping the transport: continue a song that was looping on a pattern, and loop a pattern that was currently playing on the song. On the Pattern editor screen, you can now also start and stop live recording without stopping the transport;
  • green mode is now available to make mistakes during live performance less likely. It highlights the currently playing song position, and to change tempo you need to press and hold the Tempo button.

This one goes to 11:

  • a new Overdrive effect is added to track FX and Instrument Parameters;
  • a high fidelity modeling version with three flavors is available as an offline sample effect;
  • speaking of offline effects, the Sample Editor now also features a 3-band EQ.

SD card support got better, too:

  • folders with more than 100 files are now displayed properly;
  • WAV samples with unsupported sample rates or bitrates are now automatically converted on load to 44.1kHz 16bit mono PCM samples;
  • the new Media Transfer Protocol support allows you to transfer files to your computer and back using the Tracker’s USB connection.

Candy for vintage tracker fans:

  • anti-aliasing can now be disabled to get the razor-sharp tone of classic trackers;
  • pattern steps can now be displayed in hexadecimal format starting from 00.

There are plenty of smaller features, improvements, and bug fixes. For the full list, check out our changelog.

some great new features! thank you. still holding my breath for asynchronous track lengths… even tho the manual specifically says they won’t do that… but it seems an option for that would only expand its breadth and not step on the toes of tracker traditionalists (ie: you don’t have to use different track lengths if you don’t want to!)…

also, anyone now how to rename tracks?

I’m almost 100% sure this will not be implemented. There’s too many open questions about this, and we suspect it would see little use. On Lines we always recommend basing your purchasing decisions on the current state of the product, and this is no different.

This is admittedly a little obscure. Go to Master 1/3, hold Rec and select which track you want to rename.

thanks!

and, yeah, i don’t expect asynchronous tracks to be implemented, either…

solution: 4 Trackers… :sunglasses:

I was using the betas and was already really happy to see how quickly this evolved.
Really curious to see how the midi feature updates will come along and hope that my (“approved”) suggestion for a bitrate as step fx will come someday :slight_smile:

Has anyone had any luck with a workaround for superlong notes? My idea that I still need to try is: Put a note on step 1 of a track and don’t send a note off and leave the track empty on the next pattern, theoretically (if I switch patterns obviously) that note should still be “on”, correct?
Kinda like how I use one shot trigs on the Octatrack…

Maybe I should just try… :stuck_out_tongue:
