Haha, yeah. But no, I hardly browsed any presets. I tried to dial in some very simple and standard stuff. But really, the Rev2 is really amazing. Guess I’m just GASing a little harder on the P6… Oh, and the preset button on the P6 is a nice feature.

Profit-6 is my go to synth.

Finished building a Deckard’s Dream today! Happy to be done so I can get back to the rest of my life  it was a pretty consuming task for a couple of weeks.
I’ll post some audio soon!

Well done! I got my pcbs in the initial batch last November(?) and only finished a few months ago. Huge effort. I havent wanted to do much DIY stuff ever since!

Actually I got a second hand Roli seaboard block this morning, keen to try out some MPE with it today

I heard the rev 2 (which I built) voice cards are a little easier to build but the whole process was probably around a 100 hour ordeal or so. I like building (it’s kind of a zen thing for me to zone out and focus on board stuffing) but towards the end it got to be a little much. Not sure how eager I will be to build an analog polysynth again (probably depends on the sounds coming out of the Kijimi and the Xerxes)…

not a lot of polyphony happening in this track but i’m having a lot of fun with this

I had both the Prophet 6 and OB6. What they do, they do well, but yes, I also got irritated with the lack of modulation and sold them both. I also used to have a Prophet 12, and I long to get that back.

Prophet 12 is my only hardware polysynth. Absolutely love that thing

I just got a screaming deal on a Roland Gaia and so far I am loving it. I can see where someone who has more sophisticated poly synths might not be crazy about it, but it’s absolutely perfect for my needs. Even when I eventually get something nicer I’ll always keep it around as my “live synth”. I feel so fortunate to have gotten it at the price I did.

I’ll be the first to throw some love out for the Akai sg01v! I wish dtronix would give it some love!

Just wanted to thank the thread and @chapelierfou for the discussion above. After years of looking at polysynths, and more recently getting close to buying an OB-6, I decided to check out the rev2 and ended up getting it last week. It’s everything I wanted. Very happy with it so far. Cheers.

As a counterpoint to the “lack of modulation” complaints about the OB-6: I’m using my newly-acquired OB-6 in conjunction with a free software plugin and Bitwig / VCV, so I can throw any amount of modulation onto the parameters I care to. It feels weird / next level to basically have a discrete analog Oberheim exposed to some level of modular sound design.

what’s the free plugin you’re using?

i’ve been applying a lot of modulators to any and all CCs i can on the OB6.

I still think OB-6 is a beautiful thing. I was actually looking at “lack of modulation” as a quality in that instrument, a creative restriction. Certainly no complaints here about such a focussed and great sounding instrument. I just figured out that it wasn’t right for what I wanted to do. Glad this forum is here to help steer us towards good fits.
Would love to hear what you all are getting out of it.

I believe it’s this one. Despite the name “Prophet 6 editor” it doubles as an OB-6 editor. It’s free, which means it’s fiddly, fair warning. Paid OB-6 editors are available from SoundTower and CodeKnobs.

anyone know if there’s such thing as like a rack mount fm synth that can take parameter changes over midi cc (alot) and change the sound while a note is held ? I had a dx27 in a past life and I know the sound didn’t change until you got another voice playing, but I wasn’t sure how widespread that behavior is.

also just built my first poly with mc in max today and damn

Yep, Digitone will do that beautifully. I love mine.

*old ones ( sorry :^o )

For those looking for more modulation on the OB6 (or any synth with midi CCs) check out the Ribn app. Up to 8 assignable tracks of LFOs/automation:

Damn, it’s time to make a little M4L device to modulate this people ! (I mean the Parameter people).
I have an OB-6 desktop. It’s been asleep for a while now.
