Super simple really. Sampled 6 seconds of a filter swept buchla red panel oscillator. Then triggered “grains” with a clock and sequenced the pitch of the grains through the v/oct input on arbhar. There are other intervals added with the funky on board pitch quantizer. Each “grain” has a built in envelope. The position in the sample where the grain fires is randomized with the built in sample and hold feature creating some resonant notes and some softer more filtered notes.

This looks quite interesting. XFM2 is a diy FM synthesizer with 32 voice polyphony. Uses FPGA development board as the brains and 24bit DAC for stereo sounds. Looks easy to recreate. Interested to see where this project grows!

I was lucky enough to get a Perfourmer MkII at a very reasonable price a few weeks ago. (Sold most of my mono modular VCOs to help fund it, and managed to keep hold of my Dom 1 too, which I’m pleased about.)

This is the most musical sounding synthesizer I’ve heard. People compare it to analog Roland gear - I don’t know if that’s fair, but if it is I will be seeking out some old Roland synths. I realise that ‘musical’ is vague, but the tones are just really pleasing in themselves. It also feels very much like a musical instrument in that the controls are sensitive and fine tweaks produce tangible changes. It’s also very well built and very tactile. Really nice pots.

I think I was slightly naive about using it in polyphonic mode just because I haven’t used a 4 voice analog before, and there are limitations with long release times. But overall it is what I expected and what I wanted - an instrument with great design decisions, some depth, some limitations, overall very inspiring.

I’ve really been enjoying my new Perfourmer as well. For poly, it helps to add delay/reverb to the chain to cover note stealing. It does have a Rolandy vibe, which I love. If you want real poly you can’t go wrong with a Juno

I’ve caught the Perfourmer bug as well. What a gorgeous instrument. I’m just scratching the surface, but it’s pretty hard to make a bad sound with this machine. Low end here is the Sub 25, but everything else is the Vermona.

Sounds great! I’ve been tempted lately to trade my Perfourmer for a Prophet 12, but I know I will miss that sound and the joy of all those knobs.

It wasn’t on your radar despite all my intensive lobbying here for the Perfourmer, I’m making such a terrible job, if they were actually paying me for the marketting I’m doing, I’d tell Vermona to fire me.

What I like about this synth is it’s not a “shiny new thing”, it’s a well made, simple yet creative and wonderfully tuned old thing. All knobs per function, no menu, no useless features, and yet surprisingly powerful and versatile for what initially looks like just four boring moog oscillators stacked on top of eachother.

I really dig being able to insert FX into the individual channels/voices too. Been experimenting with that a lot lately.

It had flown under my radar as well, and there’s not a great deal of stuff out there on the internet. I stumbled across it on @scttcmpbll’s Instagram. Everything @LLK is saying is right on the money- no menus, just knobs. And it just sounds good in a very intrinsic way. If it gives you a frame of reference, here’s the stock “Awake” note sequence (in C major, though) playing the perfourmer through a couple of OTO boxes. It really has some character.

It does, I don’t know own one (yet :wink:), but there’s lots of people on the gearslutz hydrasynth thread, that are very happy. Some even combined the keyboard version with the desktop to have a higher polyphony.
AFAIK availability in Europe is still scarce.

Hm. No one in North America seems to have them in stock. Bummer. Although this thread has now made me interested in the PerFourmer. Damn that thing sounds amazing.

A little bit of context- I bought a digitone in December. After a couple months of trying to bend it to my will, I decided that it’s an amazing machine that just doesn’t fit in with my current setup/goals. So I let it go in favor of the Perfourmer. What the Perfourmer lacks in features it makes up for in its timeless, beautiful voicing. For now, I’m thrilled. I imagine I’ll hang on to this thing forever.

Ya the sound is amazing. My concern with something like the Hydra is I don’t like menus etc. I also don’t like computers, it seems everyone uses Ableton or something similar to sequence the PERFourMER. Am I going to be limited trying to sequence from say modular/norns?

This thing is initially conceived with CV at heart, or to be sequenced by a very good hardware sequencer, actually each oscillator can be controlled by a different midi channel which has come up very handy in multiple situations.

Oh I didn’t see norns : I sequence it via norns all the time, I don’t know what the problem would be ? It’s not so different from ableton.
