Re: norns… That’s what I wanted to hear. But my wallet didn’t. I guess I don’t see Norns as similar to Ableton cuz I wouldn’t know where to begin with Ableton, I just know how to hit record and stop. And I usually am using Norns in more of a collaborative/improvisational manner rather than compositional.

The base model (which I bought, as I don’t have a modular setup) can be sequenced via midi. I’ve used norns, Ableton, and a Keystep so far.

Btw, Perfect Circuit gave me 10% off just for asking. It’s always worth an ask :hugs:.

They’ll pretty much give you 10% off anytime. Kinda evil in that way.

I can’t think of two synths with more opposite tonal characterisics or approaches to workflow!

Definitely. And I love them both.

Fair though too. I’ve played with a digitone and while it was cool, I’d never want one.

I, on the other hand, LOVE mine. It’s an amazing synth, incredible depth, brilliant workflow, great arp, stunning sound, and that’s before you get to the sequencer. Add portable, easily battery powered, and 8 voices, and you’ve got a surprisingly affordable powerhouse.

Yeah I’ve been equally amazed by how much I like the Digitone. It just seems so easy to get sounds that I love out of it. Sounds that are harder to get for me with FM8 for instance… And then the sequencing!

I have a Perfourmer as well, and adore it, but as @equipoise said they could not be more different.

My buddy has a full suite of Elektron and loves them and does wonders with them, but I know I’d never jive. So it’s interesting to hear a comparison which seems to come from what is maybe a similar workflow mindset.

How do you battery power the Digitone?

For sure. I definitely gave it the musical version of “it’s not you, it’s me.” as I packed it up to be shipped

I use a USB to 12V adapter capable of 700mA sustained and 1A peak and it works fine. Adafruit sells one and you can get them on eBay and elsewhere too. Some don’t work or take a little while before the unit boots (it has heavy filtration caps on the input) but most work fine. Then use a USB power pack. Works on most synths that don’t draw an excessive amount of current.

There are as many workflow mindsets as artists! Mine is “give me options, and get out of my way otherwise”, lol. I don’t mind limitations and usually treat them as a good pushback to perfectionist tendencies - they’re permission to explore other things instead. The Digitone has its place in my arsenal, but I’ve also got Moog monosynths, Nords, and DSI keyboards for other sounds. From time to time I focus on one to get depth with it, but each of them also lend themselves easily to specific sonic palettes I know I can get quickly and perfectly from one versus another.

As far as sequencing the Perfourmer goes I have had some CV fun using a Koma Komplex and Cirklon/CV breakout in the past, but I get way more out of it using midi as the cv inputs have no control over velocity or filter cutoff.

Currently using a Squarp Pyramid with the Perfourmer and really digging the combination. It’s a breeze programming chords or sequencing the voices separately.

It’s pretty fun sequencing the Perfourmer with the Digitone’s 4 track midi sequencer too.

I think I’m just about ready to sell my Digitone and get the Perfourmer. Based on what I’ve read above it seems the general consensus is that the CV/Gate is nice to have but hardly necessary. I’ve got a pretty robust handful of midi sequencers that I think would be more than enough (Keystep, Hermod, Norns/Grid, Digitakt), but I’d be lying if I said having the CV/Gate option isn’t calling me.

I have one with the cv/gate ports in the back and…I’ve essentially never used them.

I don’t have an extensive CV set-up, so I can imagine someone getting some interesting use out of them. I think you could probably do some cool stuff with an Ansible or use the gate inputs to get some interesting filter triggering* and it’s stuff I’d like to try someday, but I don’t think the instrument feels lacking without those ports.

*I realize now this this is impossible and it’s my biggest beef with the CV ports on the Perfourmer. Gate triggers can only be routed to the VCA, not to the Filter. I’d honestly trade Gate inputs for Filter CV input, if such a thing were possible.

Roland JP8080
One of my very first synthesizers. 8 voices and bi timbral… On board sequencer (phrase recorder), vocoder, mic/line input, plus a bunch of knobs and sliders. You can stack or split 2 different patches. Loved making lush pads and stacking an arp patch with it.

Don’t quote me on this, but I believe you can add the CV inputs later if you decide you need them.

Hey hey everyone, I’m wondering if anyone’s heard anything about the UDO Super 6 availability.

Also considering switching my preorder for Xerxes. Anyone have experience with it?

Thank ya!! Stay safe

Anyone play on or own an ASM Hydrasynth and care to share their experiences? I’m missing not having a proper keyboard and am sort of gathering info right now.

Thanks.
