Pools

pools

A shimmery reverb for norns

this script includes an engine, so make sure you restart after installing. lfo’s are in the parameter menu.
pools uses DFM1 as its input filter. JPverb is the reverb, in a feedback loop with PitchShift for shimmer.

Documentation

control

there are three pages, filter, mix, and edit. navigate using key 2/3.
key 1 is alt.

filter

poolfilter-m

this is the input filter.

  • encoder 1: filter type. lowpass, or highpass.
  • encoder 2: filter cutoff
  • encoder 3: filter resonance

mix

this-m

  • encoder 1: dry level
  • encoder 2: wet level
  • encoder 3: shimmer amount/feedback

edit

pooledit-m

  • encoder 1: reverb time
  • encoder 2: reverb dampening
  • encoder 3: early diffusion shape

holding alt shifts control to reverb eq/filtering.

  • alt + encoder 1: low attenuator
  • alt + encoder 2: mid attenuator
  • alt + encoder 3: high attenuator

nb: you can adjust the low/mid/high crossover frequencies via the params menu

parameters

  • dry - dry level
  • wet - wet level
  • shimmer - shimmer level/feedback

  • freq - input filter cutoff
  • res - input filter resonance
  • gain - input filter gain
  • type - input filter type (lowpass/highpass)

  • time - reverb time/t60
  • damp - reverb dampening
  • size - reverb size
  • diff - early diffusion shape
  • mod depth - delay line modulation depth
  • mod freq - delay line modulation rate

  • low x - reverb eq/ low attenuator
  • mid x - reverb eq/ mid attenuator
  • high x - reverb eq/ high attenuator
  • lowband - low/mid crossover freq
  • highband - high/mid crossover freq

  • pitchDisp - pitch shifting, random pitch variation
  • timeDisp - pitch shifting, random grain delay
  • pitchRatio - pitch shifting freq (1 is nominal rate, 2 is an octave, 4 is two octaves etc…)

I am hyped to try this out when I get home today. With all these FX scripts, I want a Norns shield without the full OLED screen. More like a programable pedal that I can just cycle through the different FX scripts.

I’m assuming each of these take up a good amount of the DSP cpu, but is there any chance your amazing FX scripts you’ve been putting together might be able to be combined in to a single FX suite?

Btw, I’m asking because I’m greedy and these FX tools you’ve been building are AMAZING.

I’ve been thinking about a pedal board script

i downloaded vinny from your github on tuesday night and had such a fun time messing around with it at band practice that night. stoked to try out the finished thing! thank you so much for sharing.

I have rehearsals with my old «post rock» band this weekend, and will probably have this running 8-90% of the time. Thank you @Justmat!

Record a clip!

@justmat super psyched about your new series, and love the graphic.

thought you might be interested— here’s my script that i use to blow up the norns image captures:

magick convert $1.png -gamma 1.25 -filter point -resize 400% -gravity center -background black -extent 120% $1-m.png

you’ll need to install imagemagick. save the above line as resize.sh and then ./resize.sh this will read this.png and output this-m.png. it blows it up 4x and gives a nice black border.

Thank you! I was just wondering how to go about enlarging the screencaps

Edit: bam! screencaps enbiggend

speechless yet again.

Oh… maybe it’s time for a usb footswitch stomp box?

Just spent the evening with this at the end of my chain and love it. Adding shimmer to the a self oscillating mimeophon is transcendent!

Yeah, that would be awesome! I have been meaning to make this design I wired up for the Octatrack into a PCB that uses a teensy board for midi over USB, but learning Eagle has been a bit slow so far…

And thanks for Pools @Justmat sounds awesome

wowowow. this beats my old Arduino based usbmidi footswitch. I will probably replace the Arduino uno with a teensy 3.6 I have soon.

For fun, here is an exploration where pools was at the end of the chain.
