I wound up purchasing the Minirig 3, and it’s a little bit bulkier than I would have hoped for, but so far, the sound quality and volume are really doing a good job to meet my needs.

I have noticed that it does get a bit distorted at higher volumes, but in most cases, I don’t really need to crank it that high to get to a spot I’m content with.

yeah, the mk2.5 dwarfs the MR3 in size. so i’m definitely still a huge fan of MR’s in general for smallest form factor that’s generally worth using, especially for indoor use. but this mk2.5 will finally enable me to do outdoor music without renting something site specific for each place i go!

An order of idea on the price ? Couldn’t find it on their website as it’s on comission / contact only. Just mentally bookmarking the existence of this thing for very possible later use cases.

you could say i paid roughly £1000 for the mk4.5 and £700 for the mk2.5 but there’s lots of extra options and add-ons which will raise or lower the price accordingly.

Just found this thread. Did a quick search but I couldn’t find what speakers people are using for mobile setup. I’m hoping to find something that will work for my Modular and Norns, so preferably stereo.

I’m sure you know but just in case. You can run the Minirig 3 in high gain and low gain mode, bright LED and dimmer LED. In high gain the maximum volume is louder but the sound quality is worse.

I love the sound quality of them but the iOS app is absolutely abysmal and 9 times out of 10 doesn’t work the way it’s intended. Pairing two of the speakers for stereo sounds wonderful when they connect but again that is hit and miss.

There was just a MiniRig update that promises to improve pairing issues. So far I’ve had better luck pairing stereo with this update.

Are you using iOS? I haven’t been able to use the MINIRIG app or Updater app since iOS13 was released.

Pretty poor form from MINIRIG developers seeing as the iOS13 beta has been available since June. I love how the speakers sound but I don’t think I’ve ever used software as frustrating and buggy as the MINIRIG apps.

Here’s the thing. I am using iOS. But it won’t work from my iPhone only from my iPad. And I hear you on the app support. These speakers sound so great and the battery lasts so long - but so many hassles with apps and pairing.

As another data point, I’ve had no problems on ios13 and the minirig app and update.

After much perseverance, I finally managed to get the speakers to show up in the app and was able to update them. Right now I’m wishing I hadn’t though, as I’ve now got a new issue with stereo. The left speaker intermittently drops out causing a kind of pan effect and volume drop before it kicks back in. Is this happening with you guys too?

They also released an iOS update for the app today, which has completely broken the settings page :man_facepalming:t2:

I will sometimes get the drop out on one side that you describe not long after pairing, but generally they’ve been pretty solid once I get them going. By left do you mean the primary speaker (i.e. the one that’s paired with your music source)? The one I get drop outs on is not the one paired with my music source.

Le bump…

I’m considering a cheap and lightweight speaker to use with norns when traveling. So - it should have an AUX input. Size/weight is probably a bit more important than quality overall.

There’s a few $20-40 units on amazon which seem like cheap enough to try:

I’ve been using the Anker Soundcore for quite awhile. Sound is good for the size and the battery life is quite unbelievable.

I don’t know about the ones mentioned. I bought a JBL Go 2. It’s cheap, small, very portable, “weather proof”, aux-in and sounds reasonably good for what it is. Perfect for me to hook up my Op-1, or phone when travelling etc. I didn’t really make any research before the purchase. Bonus: I plan to use it as a “grotbox” mono monitor when mixing.
