I think im gonna buy some tt patchbays with a db25 snake. Customize the ends and save time.

Resurrecting this thread as I’m thinking of adding a patchbay to my studio, which contains a mix of balanced and unbalanced gear. I have a feeling that patching in unbalanced gear in the middle of a balanced connection is going to cause problems, anyone have thoughts on this?

I exclusively do this and have been for many years, I haven’t had hum or other problems unless i’m plugging in an old motor from the 60’s (like a Leslie) or something vintage to a shared power strip.

Thanks! I think I’m going to just buy the patchbay first, then test using my existing wiring before shelling out for a bunch of snakes

the longer the cables the higher the chance they’d pick something up along the way, and with tidy spaces the cables end up being longer… these days I just go for balanced cables everywhere i can run them, and i check that the kit supports balanced audio. for me, long term it’s turned out to be the cheapest solution, factoring in the worry and the extra time when things get noisy.
