Very cool but not for me I don’t think, I would have been far more tempted if it had been sold as being easily rackable. Fingers crossed for slightly cheaper PP and brains combos floating about!

This thing looks like a fantastic controller as long as your hands are actually on it. And the price is great for the feature-set.
But…
No CV stage selection and no recording means it is pretty static when hands-off. Reset and direction tricks certainly help, though, and the time adjustments look good for humanising your meter. Separate lane clocks or clock dividers per lane would’ve been tremendous.

I’m also surprised by the lack of quantization, but 0-Ctrl seems to really lean into the idea of both microtonality and irregular rhythms. I’m okay with things having specific use cases for more experimental music, and Make Noise is certainly a company with a heritage of that. A package deal with this, an 0-Coast, and a minimal case to house them together vertically under one power supply would have been a slam dunk.

It would have been nice to have a semitone out or something for one of the rows at least. You can say that a Korg SQ-1 is microtonal too on the unquantized out. It’s still a cool piece, so I’ll quit my moaning. :slight_smile:

I’m not too surprised by the lack of quantization – this is basically an improved Brains & 2 Pressure Points, plus a clock, plus the dynamic gate/envelope, in a nice compact package.

I can easily see myself replacing my SQ-1 with this. :slight_smile: It seems like it’d partner nicely with my system, though watching all these demos makes me miss my 0-Coast a bit…

Thank god it’s fully analog! Rene 2 is too slow for my taste, and I don’t use memory anyway. Think I’ll swap as it looks more fun to play.

I’ll be buying one to pair with my 0-Coast, which I usually play with the improv. ensemble I’m part of.
It looks very similar to an Arduino based controller for the 0-Coast that I designed but never got around to building. This will save me the bother and have better pressure plates.
I’ll be selling my Beatstep Pro and Launchkey mini, as it seems more immediate than the BSP and more expressive than the Launchkey mini.
About 90% of my modular is Make Noise. I obviously think along the same lines as them! :slight_smile:

Up front. I’m still waiting on my Disting EX which I ordered within 3 hours of its announcement, even though some people have said they got shipping notices for them :cry:

I think my decision on 0-Ctrl is when to buy it rather than if. :thinking:

Little question about the 0-CTRL. Did I missed something or is it just going forward and backward like the good old Pressure Points? Is there any way to get some random allocation of the steps without touching it?

The manual is not yet available… but from my understanding it is not a function. Also, as there is no menu, I suppose there will not be any possibility of a firmware update (?) as it is the kind of sequencer where “what you see is what you get” to loosely quote Tony.

The Mylar melodies video gives a really nice demo of ways that the sequencer “playhead” can be bumped around and redirected.

So I just listened to that section (13:18 to 23:43) of the video. It is indeed able of creating micro scenes of steps, randomizing time per step and other interactive functions, but nothing as autonomous random allocation of steps à la Korg SQ-1 and many digitally driven sequencers.

The fact that it is analog may then be the reason why it is not possible.

I really like the redesign on this. I’m curious to hear demos of this new iteration. It probably doesn’t have a place with me, but it looks super fun and very easy to play.
