since its been in development for 6 years i’m guessing its not the portable stems player they made for kanye… though i hope that’s what it is somehow!

Having owned much of TE’s output and sold a good chunk of it (with a potential releasing of my OP-1 in to the wild), I am cautious here. They are inventive, insanely good designers and find amazing ways to surprise me.

At the same time, I worry that this device might suffer from the same issues all TE stuff does; namely an inability to be properly scaled up in terms of manufacturing. This will cause things to be a bit more expensive than they need to be while also having odd faults, especially in terms of early runs.

But hell if I’m not curious and eager to see what it is!!!

I have this love/hate thing(seems pretty common) with TE. I love the OP-Z to bits, but the build quality is beyond sub par. But I will probably never get rid of it.

But something about the “it’s great for the outdoors” phrase just makes me think it’s a Bluetooth speaker with some bells and whistles.

Oof. That would be a heartbreaking revelation. A potentially disappointing result for 6 years of work…

Haha. Agreed. But the whole Frekvens line took about 2-3 years from announcement to release.

If you look at this picture, the size of the blurred out piece of hardware, makes me think of a less interactive unit and more like something stationary…

OH JEEZ! Good freaking eye!

They keep saying that something “magical” and it makes me think it might be something along the lines of a wand that can be used the way that some had hoped the WiiMote might have been able to do… Hahah We’ll see…

It also could just be an incense stand that took six years to get to market (since we don’t all have OP-1s between whose keys we can jam a stick of incense).

i have a feeling it’s going to be expensive and somewhat disappointing, yet i’ll want one the second they show it.

The new thing will be highly instagrammable—beyond that all bets are off.

Don’t worry, I’m sure there will be an expansion option to address some of the shortcomings! Maybe even a rumble pack option.

Surface is so much more than just “Rings” sounds though. It has 5-6 other sounds that are really nice. I’d compare more to Plaits than Rings.

hoping for a portable mixer/speaker/battery with fx and built in digital recorder… or an ambient lightshow/camp lantern…

I would buy into this if it displayed, like, Windows Media Player old school oscilloscope action.

Morph 4! 20hp. Quad linear VCA module. Master “morph” macro control that covers crossfading, panning, interpolating scanning. Each channel has variable span. Due in December.

And maybe a wavefolder, too. Should know shortly.

Edit: Yes. Fold 6. 4hp. Diode-based wavefolder with overdrive, and variable asymmetry. Not sure yet where the “6” came from. Due in October. Edit: “6” is the number of stages in the wave folder.

Is this akin to the RxMx? But with control over positioning of each channel along the morph axis. And it looks to be as much intended for CV as audio rate signals.

Individual control over the VCAs for each channel is a nice enough touch, but then everything else is CVable too… somebody clever is going to have a use for that, and it may involve self-patching

Thinking about the possibilities made me realize Planar 2 can act a bit like RxMx or an A-144 Morphing Controller, using the polar CV mode. I love it when new gear announcements make me think of new ways to use gear I already have

Oh how fantastic! I’ve been gradually getting more and more Joranalogue stuff and really enjoying it, only the generate 3 was slightly disappointing because the “raw” sound isn’t as powerful as a less featured oscillator but even that disappointment faded as I spent time with them and learned how to find all the sweet spots (I have 4 now… which lines up nicely with a 4 channel VCA thingy). The wavefolder is another sorely needed addition to this mix so I suspect I’ll be buying both of these sight unseen
