Reading around internet speculation and zooming in the picture in the tweet it seems that it could be some new color palette / version of the bass station 2 (it says afx station somewhere in the photo and it has very similar elements to the bs2, like the screen and knobs) in a way that’s similar to the warp anniversary version (that was kinda nice imho)

Oda Speakers

No idea what these sound like, but they look amazing and have such a cool idea surrounding them.

@Vongon just announced a new Reverb/Vibrato that I’m pretty hyped about.

There aren’t many details available - are you required to use their speaker to listen to the live steam? Can the speaker be used to listen to other things (ie is there a line-in, bluetooth, etc.)? There is a whole lot of marketing copy about how the speakers are supposedly designed for live music with no supporting details:

Speakers Meticulously Designed for Live Performance

Simply put: They’re built like instruments, so they make instruments sound beautiful.

We’ve spent three years tuning this piece of wood

Very nice design.

The slow warbled vibrato medium reverb example sounds good, not floating above but pretty melded. Also the shallow bright reverb (great tone too).

Hmm, look forward to more demos.
But I already like the sound of this more than other pedals.

Yeah the details are sparse. It seems like you have to have the speakers + membership (not included with speakers) to listen to the live performances, but you can definitely use them for other things. This page has few details. There are are line-in’s and bluetooth and wifi. I wish they would post some demos or specs, but I’m definitely interested in the idea.

I’m honestly not really convinced that a soundboard that small is going to sound all that great, but I’m more confused by the speaker + performance platform angle. I’m not sure I see the value or reason to pair a listening device with specific audio streams.

Agree that the website copy is a bit hyperbolic and hand-wavey. AFAIK the subscription and speakers are two seperate things though. Presumably you could just buy a music subscription without the speakers?

I would be curious to listen to/experience the speakers. Seems like a novel design.

Wow, this pedal from Vongon looks fantastic, and sounds really good too. I like the simplicity of the interface. The paragraphs low pass filter pedal caught my eye a while back, but I wasn’t looking for any mono fx back then.

ooo i love those small buchla/verbos knobs. i wish they made them with black and gold (instead of silver) color-way, that would be perfect for black/gold pcbs.

I believe he had them custom manufactured. There’s a little blurb about it on the page. The attention to detail is really spectacular.

Oh my, those audio examples are delicious :yum:

Sorry if I’m posting too much in this thread, but if you’re curious about how our modules work I just released a 30+ minute video detailing everything in depth. It’s off the cuff so I’m not as articulate as I’d like, but I think it should give you a decent idea of how everything works if you’re interested:

Jeez that Ultrasheer sounds really good. Love the vibrato.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on these? I really like the appearance of the speakers although I imagine due to the slim profile sound quality is compromised-- I really like the lineup they’ve curated although it’s way too often that something like this is started then fails in a year or two. I personally have no relation to the company but did purchase the speakers, I figure it’s not actually a bad price for nice looking speakers and I do look forward to listening to live performances.

Eliane Radigue did an early sound installation using speakers that function like this I believe. She just thought normal loudspeakers would ruin the feeling of the space. So she made several panels of wood with speaker drivers attached directly to the wood. Seems like this is basically the type of speaker they’re building, and what they’re selling is a community aspect of having an individualized experience.

300 seems pretty reasonable for the speakers even though the performance thing doesn’t interest me much. They’re very pretty and don’t take up as much space as normal speakers. Would be awesome if there was just a plain audio version with no wifi at a lower cost.

I think the speakers are cool. I wouldn’t want the subscription thing.

Same here. Even though I kind of like the idea of some subscription model to support artists (especially in these times), I would prefer just the speakers (with the subscription as an option). But then again I think it’s totally possible to use the speakers without subscribing, right?

Would be really interesting to know how these kind of speakers sound in comparison to regular ones. They definitely do look beautiful - too bad they are not shipping to Europe (yet?).

Does anyone around here know of similar speakers out there? Maybe some DIY options?

DIY’ing these is super easy, just some cheap amplifiers and exciters. A group I play with has done some small-room shows where we turned cymbals into speakers. We’ve also had a ton of fun hooking exciters up to a piano harp, basically a big speaker with a built in very wet reverb!

I’m kind of into it. I think the design is really nice, but I’m not 100% sold on the concert/streaming subscription aspect and worry about sound quality a little. Feels like in an interesting idea to build a community around your product with events like this, and I’m interested to see how it works out.
