Midi in is clock only.

I know; I don’t want to believe it either. From their site:

Sync to external clocks through the MIDI Input and Output

only listed midi functionality. The language all over that page is really careful to mention “beat synced” midi effects and to omit any mention of CC or actual sequencing.

That’s a shame, 16n would seem like the perfect partner.

Thanks, seems like you’ve got it. I’m a bit shocked. Sounds like they’re really banking on people falling in love with the touch UI. The problem is that mixing really benefits from good tactile control. It’s a misstep, and it’s probably good for people to say so while this is still in pre-production.

I, too, am shocked. Two main points that require resolution:

  1. Preservation of audio quality when using Y cables (unless this is unique to my experience, in which I want someone to tell me how to do it better)
  2. midi CC compatability

And suddenly it’s an essential piece for any dawless multiphonium. Wish they’d put out a guide for using splitters that preserve audio quality + push a firmware update to accommodate midilearn, ccs, and some kind of ‘lock’ setting so you can remove your controller and save values. Dynamic per-page midi assignments would also be a huge benefit, but that’s more involved…

edit: there is literally hot cheeto dust in my neckbeard rn.

At around the 2 minute mark in Loopop’s review, he says 1010 have “indicated” that in the the usb host port will accept midi cc in future updates. Don’t know which indication he’s referring to, but I assume 1010 intend to do this!

I also think this mixer will work best with a midi controller. It feels like its small design is made with small, portable performance focused hardware setups in mind. Even though it certainly will work good in a set-and-leave setting too, there are so many other options for those situations (where size is also not as important).

I heard that, too. It’s just not something that I’d bet 500 dollars on, and it’s a current limitation that’s not obvious in the product description (you have to “look for what they don’t say”).

Some of this is that the product looks so so so good that these two issues are completely breaking for my use case feels this way

it’s so weird that they wouldn’t have made midi mapping a thing on launch… especially since you know it would be the first thing everyone asks about.

The 1010 mixer has a cool feature set, but I don’t know why they’re so tied to that form factor. If you need a midi controller for a small mixer it somewhat defeats the purpose of a small mixer–it’s no longer small. It would have been nice to see a purpose-built piece of hardware with a knob or fader for each channel, rather than shoehorning a feature set into the same platform. The mini trs jacks are fine with me, but the interface looks like it demands too much attention during a performance. It would be nice if you could morph between saved states–that would be great for performances.

I can’t really look at the bluebox without this recent comment from the OB-4 thread echoing in my head…

I think I would be significantly more excited about a TE mixer/recorder in basically this exact same form-factor, but with an improved OP-1 tape as the main recording interface.

It’s probably so they could make the 10/10 launch date.

If I were running a business and I had a platform that I had already built knowledge and tooling around I wouldn’t want to reinvent the wheel every time I released a new product.

Yeah, bluebox is probably 90% an alternate firmware for the blackbox, plus a paint job; that’s the model 1010music follows on Eurorack. There is one obvious hardware revision on bluebox vs. blackbox: two additional jacks on the front. Otherwise, they’re outwardly identical.

I couldn’t even get through the video personally. The fact that this was coupled with so much other gear that has been released within what feels like milliseconds just felt like too much product placement & enablement of conspicuous consumption to me. Maybe I’m just being a complete curmudgeon this weekend, but I found the whole thing a massive turn-off.

Ironically, I could actually use a small footprint mixing device.

There’s this (in my humble opinion) mistaken practice that if a device isn’t readily available it’s still hyped and susceptible to speculation. I thought this thread was mostly focused on devices like the ones from Teenage Engineering, where you have weeks of obscure photos to speculate on and discuss with fellow forumites.

Since the Bluebox has a release date and is being promoted via thorough demos I’d assume that both a link in the Mini mixers thread and a dedicated thread to discuss actual features would be prudent. But it seems I’m wrong. A mention in the Mixers thread makes a lot of sense.

yeah thats the problem with gear influencers

I haven’t seen any chatter on here about the Ogami Ittō from Unknown Devices. The demos are pretty intriguing and the Midi as well as Max4Live hooks are nice.

  • Digital mono-in stereo-out effect pedal
  • 600MHz Cortex M7 MCU
  • AK4558 Codec, 16-bit 44100Hz
  • 9V 300mAh
  • Usb and trs Midi
  • Expression pedal input

Wow. Fantastic demo. Anyone know if these are actually out in the wild? UD site still references preorders shipping in September,

And yet, here we all are in the “Pre-release Hype Megathread”!

Well I think if we rename the thread to something like “pre release gear discussion” it will still reflect what happens here without implying that we should act in a certain way
