I’m thinking of getting one of these for my 11 year old nephew for xmas, if they are available before then. Looks like a fun thing to explore. Anything can be patched to anything…no way to mess it up.

This had not crossed my radar. It’d make for a fun partner to my DFAM!

I think the Kastle Drum is sold out, at least from Bastl directly.

It looks really nice indeed, and well designed. Bastl do some really cool stuff (and seem to be great people too, which is always a plus).

yeah it sold out and their distributors have not received stock yet, I don’t think. Soon I hope.

can’t imagine that ever being enough knobs.

Why no hype of the jordananalog morph4? I’m gagging for it

Ordered morph 4 this morning and I’m pretty excited for it. Planning to park it next to cold mac as I can see some potential for interesting integration there. I ordered it intending to use it primarily for cv, but I expect it will also be a fun way to take four outs from a complex oscillator and evolve!

I’m going to put it right smack bang next to my qmmf - seems to be made for it.
Where did you order?

That sounds like a nice place for it!

I ordered it from Juno only because of the next day delivery (which is admittedly a pretty silly reason, particularly since I have an active patch that’ll take me a few days to tear down anyhow).

New from MI

Can’t wait to hear how this sounds! I’ve been in the market for a larger dual filter, and I think the continuous state could be a really cool thing to play with. I was thinking about the Morgasmatron, but this could be a cool alternative that saves 2 HP and has some over uses.

It also looks like teasing Clouds sucesor:
Freeze, Density, Stereo I/O…

As nice as this filter sounds. I’d be much more interested to see what she does with Clouds MK2. There is obviously a place for this filter, but for me it’s essentially a bunch of nice stuff that’s already out there in one nice package. It probably makes financial sense to make analog modules given the cheap clones out there. I’m sure it’s built and calibrated fantastically, and that is something people are seemingly more willing to pay for in analog. Regardless, I’d be much more excited about something totally new, which I think Clouds MK2 will be. In general I’m much more interested in her DSP modules than the control/analog stuff.

I mean, most people are obviously frothing at the mouth for a new clouds. That actually might even be an understatement. In a way, releasing Blades first is a necessity, otherwise it would be buried beneath clouds 2 news, videos and more. And honestly, a stereo/serial morphable filter is almost more exciting to me.

I’m wondering what the half-hidden input “SE” could be… maybe it’s SEEK? That could make sense as the updated form of POSITION.

I have to joyfully disagree! To me one of the most exciting aspects of Émilie’s modules is the way they reimagine how open-ended the functionality and interaction of module types can be, while still being focused and intuitive. On that front, Blades seems like a truly elegant contribution to the recent multi filter module design space: it pulls ideas from stereo filter modules and from multi filter modules like Three Sisters, and folds them into a continuous space while adding plenty of colors of its own. I’m also super excited to see what the follow up to Clouds will be. But to me, Blades looks like Émilie at the top of her game, and that’s a gift to celebrate!

I’m glad you’re happy about! Don’t get me wrong, but could you point out to me what’s unique about this? To me this is essentially a dual SEM type design (multimode with a blend between the three, not the actual SEM sound), not something like 3 sisters where all three are available at once, and can shift in relationship to each other. I mean, it’s cool, no question about it, but it’s essentially the same functionality that’s in my OB-6.

it does have that (the shift button locks the two and the right freq knob becomes offset).

To me the most interesting things are the continuously variable controls (routing especially, but the filter shape too). With the soft clipping circuit, it’s gonna make feedback patching very fun

Perhaps a weird or stupid question but…

I’ve got a new Benjolin coming and have wanted to find a filter that is similar to the “Twin Peak” Rob Hordijk filter, which is pretty much unobtainium.

Might this new Blade get into the Twin Peak neighborhood?

Thanks!

To me it’s about:

  • the blend between modes being continuous and CVable (including at audio rates, which when oscillating, is phase modulation)
  • the single/parallel/serial configuration also being on a continuous and CVable blend
  • the drive stages/wavefolding (drive -> filter -> drive -> filter can be really powerful)

In some ways, I think so but the character seems different. I had the Epoch Modular version of the Twin Peak. I didn’t like its resonance character for general filter use, and as I recall it didn’t self-oscillate continuously, but it did ping beautifully. From the DivKid video I think Blade probably sounds nicer overall, is less focused on pinging but should still sound quite nice.
