I’ve thought about it myself. When I tried one very briefly at Knobcon last year, from the feel of it I wasn’t completely sure whether I was going to like playing it though. I used that as my excuse to resist getting one.

I had a thought that the skeleton represents someone with dry skin (or, well, no skin) and could indicate that the touchpads on this extremely speculative controller are pressure-based rather than conductive like PP/Rene.

a new Kickstarter for a new expressive instrument…

built-in synth, and also an MPE controller - so 3 dimensions

a few things I find very attractive:

  • layout thats easy to learn/use - easy chord formation
  • isomorphic layout
  • compact
  • open source software - so you could modify layout or synth.
  • accelerometer, for more expression

looks like a lot of fun

@grey where are you imagining the intersection of a tactile interface and audio DSP would exist?

yes, was going to hype this myself here too!

hello folks,

i thought you might be interested in this Kickstarter (i’m not affiliated in any way, just interested) for an isomorphic, MPE compatible midi controller that’s been in development for some years. the firmware is open-source, so it’s likely that it could be adapted to work with many devices and layouts for microtonal experimentation and performance, for example, or with norns, or Axoloti hardware.

the Kickstarter is here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/striso/striso-board

more info here: https://www.striso.org/

and source code here: https://github.com/striso/striso-control-firmware

again, i don’t know this guy, but i think that the project looks really interesting, so i just want to spread the word.

cheers.

Well, looks like we will have an answer this coming Tuesday!

The white glowing bit in the photo makes me think of the glowing “gate” in the animations.
Also a new one…

Lots of upward and downward motion. Some sort of modulation source, maybe touch sliders with some kind of inertia thing going on…?

Based on those arrows, and the one shooting out of the square in one of the previous story posts - I’m guessing it’s an updated Pressure Points with vertical position output as well as the normal stored values, gate and pressure. Can’t help but feel the hype now I’ve seen that first panel photo!

Pressure to amount of effects seems like the obvious? Also potentially the ability to select multiple effects per pad via the patented Make Noise Brand Change-Settings-With-Colored-LED’s system. Maybe effects stacking across the width of a given trace?

Hmm. An interesting deisgn on the contact traces. Seems like depending on where you touch bridging is easier or more complex.

My ignorant guess is a micro 0-Coast with touch plates that’s the size of the Bastl Kastle. Fingers crossed!

I’m not sure if it’s really meaningful or not, but the instagram post is tagged “eurorack” “modularsynth”, so maybe it’s not standalone? Unless it’s like some of the recent gear that is stand-alone but can be put into a rack ala Mother-32 (or maybe they just tag everything like that).

You’re joking, right?

Tiny fingers crossed? Lol!

looks like Moog is coming out with the Subharmonicon this year, updated from the old Moogfest version.

I haven’t really been super interested in the Mother format for a while, but this one is kinda interesting to me. I think I’m a sucker for anything that can explore chord structures and the sequencer section on this looks interesting enough.

Oh, intresting. Seems like there’s some additional revision here from the early version.

Looks really interesting. I’ve been tempted by the DFAM for some time but this looks really good.

is the mimeophon too noisy?

Some people have noise issues with the Mimeophon, others don’t.

I honestly still don’t know if it’s down to individual standards, usage, gain staging etc. or if it’s sensitive to noise or interference, or if some units are just noisier than others due to defective parts or component tolerances or something like that. Or some combination of all of the above.

If I specifically go looking for noise with my Mimeophon I can find it, although it doesn’t follow the “more noise when mix level is lower” thing that some people have said. And it’s narrowband and easily EQ notched out in my DAW or with an automatic noise reduction plugin like Brusfri.

That isn’t counting the noise that happens when you crank Color up fully and set Repeats high enough, which I consider a feature rather than a bug… since it isn’t what people have generally been describing.

Mmmm.

There seem to be a few things going on. Gestures and motion seem to be a big part of it, maybe pressure?. It looks like there’s either a square wave output or a gate output.

Those overlapping circles (and the audio!) make me think of delays, though it could just be running through a Mimeophon and the circles could be something else.

I’m even more intrigued and confused than before.

One thing I’ve noticed is that Make Noise don’t mix metaphors, either in design philosophy or in pre-release marketing (the musical accompaniment in the teaser is never a metaphor for the module itself).

Looking very much like Pressure Points on steroids. I welcome this.
