It’s the new Veils (2020 edition) Mutable Instruments | Veils

Korg are so weird, for a few years it was like “Look, a new color of the MS-20!” and that would be it. Now they have a really nice new digital series, 2 ARP2600 clones, and a miniKorg rerelease? Wild.

IMO the value proposition of the 2600 mini vs the full size is not great. To save (probably) $1200 US you lose the keyboard and integrated case. Probably isn’t going to hold it’s resale value nearly as well as a regular production FS would, either.

edit: Would probably spend unwisely on a reissue-y Mini Pops, tho

That does make me wonder what make noise could possibly be working on, more DSP modules? stereo in verb seems like a major candidate. Or back to analog for a minute. Their lineup already is so strong.

Yeah I thought about that too. If it’s not a module I’m suspecting and hoping some kind of desktop effects unit to accompany 0-COAST and 0-CTRL, maybe a standalone Mimeophone and Morphagene “lite” plus analog distortion kind of situation. I believe their desktop units have done very well on the market and looking at how many people seem to be building small modulars with the focus on Morphagene and effects it could be quite a perfect unit for many.

I have been dreaming about an 0-Tape since the release of the Tape and Microsound (a purchase I could never possibly justify atm). I’ve always felt it would be the wise business move.

Isn’t that big knob a different module? Specifically, Warps? I see Veils (2020), then Warps to it’s left, then Clouds 2 after that, but all the knobs (other than trim pots) on Clouds 2 look the same size

We’ll they’ve gotten quite a bit of pressure by Behringer I’d say…

I think I see a Korg Modwave in my future. I love the depth of the sequencer & fx on the Wavestate and they seem to the same on the Modwave.

Same really. I’ve been flirting with the idea of going full banana (most likely Serge) on my synthesizer needs, but Morphagene being a staple in my rack it’s harder to think about splitting the systems and so on. A standalone tape&microsound box with right feature set could tip me over.

Apparently it isn’t a module. You already have standalone synthesis and sequencing, seems like effects/sampling is the best bet tbh.

oh damn just make the Maxi already, it’s the only one I want!

I suspect that’s true. Probably DSI as well. Definitely seen some really excellent kit in the last two years.

The first blurred knob looks like a bigger knob. so after the warps knob (the big ones on clouds so that makes it medium size?) You can see it is bigger then the smaller knob from warps. In the recent facebook leak you can also see that the left most knob on clouds2 seems to be a medium sized knob.

Why are people in the comments section talking about mics? Does the word “Activation” have anything to do with mics?

Man a small, Earsesque contact mic on an 0-Tape would be an instabuy.

Alessandro also recently posted the SuONOIO synth he made in collaboration with The Harvestman / IME, and mentioned he loves collaborating on instruments, so it’s reasonably safe to assume this is a Rolando / Cortini collaborative synth.

Also, when the 0-CTRL was announced last year, I tweeted that it would be cool to hear Alessandro do a series of “0-Coast + 0-CTRL + effects” recordings like his “Forse” trilogy with the Buchla Music Easel, and he responded “Close but no cigar…” followed by “What I meant was that there might be something else we have been working on, to use the 0-CTRL with aside from the 0-Coast.”

Edit: I asked if this new thing was what he was hinting at in the response above, and he just answered “Someone is paying attention

sonicLAB just released a midi generator counterpart to their CosmosF synth, CosmosF M31. The implementation uses MPE to allow for stochastic control of multiple parameters per note. It’s exactly the kind of package I told the dev I was hoping to see when I tried the Cosmosf suite last spring: sonicLAB generators on MPE control duties, that can be paired with any sound engine/synth we please. I’ll have to test drive it, but it looks super promising to me.

well, the problem being that the FS run was so limited that they instantly became unobtanium. they were being listed for roughly the same price as vintage ones, but looking on Reverb now I’m seeing massive ($1k+) price cuts as sellers try to move them before the Mini comes out :joy: I love when flippers get undercut by the manufacturer themselves.

Not unexpected, but very interesting nonetheless.
