Reddit hyped game stop stock, stock jumped so much market protections have kicked in.

Basically, some hedge funds were trying to short GameStop and Reddit intervened to pump up the stock, causing the hedge funds to lose billions and possibly need a bailout.

It’s pretty great actually.

Well that sucks. I was preparing to go back to reason, but I think that’s a no. I hate sub models.

There’s certainly a “thing” as “subscription fatigue”, but as a software developer, I can assure you that the subscription model is only going to become more ubiquitous, not less. In so many situations, it’s the only way to remain viable. The market doesn’t tolerate the software prices of yesteryear, and we can no longer maintain development and support on one-time sales and sporadic upgrade revenue.

There was a LinkedIn post for an opening to be Elektron’s CEO which mentions looking for someone with Software as a Service experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if Elektron begins to release VSTs, maybe with a subscription as well like Roland, NI, etc.

Sonicstate (that’s the proper name of the channel, I think “Sonic Lab” are their review videos) goes live at 12:15 CST here:

Sounds fantastic, much less vanilla than the 0-coast (which I owned, but never made since as someone who owns a shared system). I haven’t spoken to him about it, but I suspect Tom Erbe must have been involved as it sounds like a derivation of the Telharmonic.

Layout looks DPO-ish.

UAD launched 3 pedals:

  1. “Golden Reverb” pedal with the AKG spring, the EMT 140 plate, and the Lexicon 224 hall https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1617657-REG/universal_audio_gpm_gold_golden_reverb_pedal.html

  2. “Starlight Echo Station” echo pedal with “EP-III”, “analog DMM”, and the precision delay https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1617656-REG/universal_audio_gpm_star_astra_modulation_pedal.html

  3. “Astra Modulation” modulation pedal with the brigade chorus, dblr/flanger, and “trem 65” https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1617658-REG/universal_audio_gpm_astra_astra_modulation_pedal.html

(afaik, the ones in quotes are new plugins, not yet available on apollo/etc devices)

Maybe, but the word “tonic” made me immediately think it’s digital.

That is disappointing. I understand that for developers there is a more predictable and stable income (not fact checked). For this specific case (reason) it feels like a last desperate attempt to stay afloat… sadly. As reason was my first daw back in version 2.5 until 7 (when I didn’t have a device that could run it properly) and I still think fondly of it and all it’s quirks.

Reason + isn’t replacing the non subscription version, at the moment:

If I already use Reason, can I keep using my license?

Sure! You bought it, it is yours. And we will keep developing Reason and selling licenses in our shop if you prefer to own instead of subscribe.

I tuned in this morning (actually marked my calendar as busy so I wouldn’t have a meeting conflict…I like events). There was some video juggling, but the SonicState guy (Nick) said it was a complex oscillator with a clever delay. So we’re probably both right, DPO-ish with some software in the Telharmonic / Mimeophon lineage. Mimeophon also has a Tonic knob, which I’ve interpreted as “sort of reverb-y”.

Very interesting. I might also be wrong, as it could be an analog delay. Maybe it’s just influenced by their work with him, but done in the analog realm. Either way, pretty excited to dig in.

They are talking about clock noise and I think Alessandro said it’s analog.

Sorry to reply so much, but he also said karaoke machine delay, which, to my mind, means it’s a PT-2399, so not analog.
