Ok I was not expecting that. This one has an interesting character, very different from nocoast. What would you combine the sound of Strega with? My first thought was adding a pitcrusher and some filter.

I’m definitely not going to judge it basic on those two demos, especially as the second was very likely conducted with video conferencing software that’s specifically tuned to ruin synth sounds (seriously, the noise reduction kills any character and bottom end), the instagram reveal sounded much better.

Normally, I’d not be that into the “signature” instrument of someone, but I’ve very often found myself doing the whole Sonno thing (monosynth into a dirty delay), and wished I had it all integrated into one instrument. I think I’ll probably end up getting it, but yeah, I’m also really sick of the PT2399, even if this is a interesting implementation of it. I think if it was a bit bigger with a built in sequencer it would be a slam dunk, because I’d love to just show up with some small laptop-sized synth with everything integrate. Maybe a custom synth with the 0-ctrl and this together. It would be a really nice minimal setup for live sets.

Those are fighting words!

I wouldn’t mind a throw down at the drone dome to see which synth reigns supreme.

Just so the homies know, Alessandro is still playing the Strega and 0-CTRL on IG rn. (Selling me on it more and more…)

Drone dome throwdown! Lets go!

Thanks for the tip, more delicious drones.

Listening to some of this, I really wonder how good this would sound if the delay was stereo

And it’s a wonderful delay in this form too - I can get lost in this combination for hours.

The second round of live playing convinced me more that I would really enjoy it. He started playing some lovely simple melodies, then got a second one in on the act.

I’m going to be resolute though! :fist:

(…but I will buy a few of Cortini’s albums on this upcoming Bandcamp Friday.)

I think it would be cool ofc, especially with MN’s recent run of stereo goodness. But I was digging the mono demos! It puts less emphasis on a wide stereo field and more of using the delay to create the tone rather than something on the end of a chain. You can always add additional delay at the end too

Also in response to everyone’s predictions on whether the delay is analog or digital, MN just posted about Strega on IG using #analogsynth #analogdelay #analogoscillator so I think it’s safe to assume it’s a fully analog device
*Edit, Confirmed PT-2399

Cortini’s live stream was more informative and effective than the sonic state interview–I think he just wanted to play the thing. Would have been better for MN to do the technical runthough and follow with Cortini’s performance.

From everything they’ve said in their stream, it’s not replacing perpetual licenses at all. They namedropped Adobe like 2-3 times, so I think everyone involved in this choice knows the potential pitfalls and wanna make sure they can avoid them while still onboarding new users/getting a new income stream.

I don’t think that’s safe at all, given how often PT-2399s get referred to as analog. One of the demos (HOWA) makes comparisons to the Befaco Crush, which, again is a PT-2399 based delay.

No, because there are very apparent digital delay clock artefacts in the video, and also there was a discussion in the interview about this delay as well.

Clock noise is also present in bucket brigade analog delays. That’s what I thought they were talking about.

You make a good point, I think it’s a good idea to just keep an open mind and eventually we will find out the truth.

I guess we’ll just have to ~ wait and see ~ :woman_mage:

That is a dead-on PT2399 sound in the sonicstate vid

Yeah, it’s definitely a PT2399, but I feel it works in this context, I really like the way it sounds. My concern though, is that it feels a bit like half a synth without an vca and filter. I’d probably pair it with a 0 coast or a 4ms pod…

Interesting box, but I am happy that I don’t feel any need for it. I suppose if I was traveling and spending a lot of time in hotels I might want to go for it.

I don’t think there really is much of a mystery. I’m not the only one who immediately understood karaoke delay to mean PT2399. Those ICs are known for karaoke machines and… every cheap delay in euro. There are literally dozens of eurorack modules with it. It’s analog in that it has analog parts in the signal path like all the old digital delays, it’s still a digital delay though.
