Didn’t see a dedicated thread for this yet, so I might as well start one.

I’m so god-damned excited for this thing. Might replace my whole eurocrack system with it. Looking to downsize and have something more easy to travel with. This is such a perfect “hotel room” instrument to lay and tinker with late on headphones.

I’m also really excited to get one, in the first batch so let’s hope soon. I’m curious to know if I can load it with stuff and feed it with live stuff and not need to use any external controllers with it to make it shine.

What specifically does your eurorack do that this would replace it?

Richard feels very confident that the VL2 can pretty much get the sounds of the VRL and much much more. I don’t know the final price, but they’ll be very obtainable and they’re making a lot more than the original run of about 350. I’ve played with one a bit and it really very much is an experimental sand box. I was planning on going to Super Booth with them this year, but it’ll have to wait till next time.

This Unknown Devices Topo T16 was in my feed:

It seems pretty well thought out. (Maybe not as a keyboard though. 20 keys would have allowed for a one octave 4ths-tuned row arrangement like a Linnstrument or Push.)
Also, I see nothing about MPE. (Maybe there’s no function for MPE with 1-dimensional keys.)
They say preorders are for June delivery. 159 Euro excl vat.

I’ve been waiting for this for a while. Jumped on the preorder as I think it’s a great idea and I wanna support it.

Not sure if my 1010 Blackbox is ok with Pressure but I always wanted to find something as compact as the MIDI Fighter but with velocity sensitivity. If I can also assign Pressure per pad, sky’s the limit!

The XY mode can be assigned to FX, while the slider mode can control the mix. In my head it’s a killer combo, but, as always, how it translates in practice remains to be seen.

This is interesting. Based on this comment on that Youtube video, it seems each key has a magnet in the cap and I’m guessing a hall sensor under each key, which is how its able to achieve a range of data rather than just a binary on/off. I had considered attempting this, glad to see it can be done.

Hey, I’m Ciro of Unknown Devices (I could have sworn I already had an account on lines but found nothing!)
I’m using polyAT messages for Topo, hadn’t found use for proper MPE in this case.
BTW Ableton lists the AT from Topo as MPE:

Yes I’m using linear hall sensors, and Gateron KS-20 magnetic switches! the linear hall sensor are quite pricey but they basically output an analog signal and it’s super useful! one could technically make a fully analog CV controller using the sensors and some opamps

At least in my case, I’ve been working with synths since the early 80s, and I’ve only very rarely used stock presets, whether hardware or software, and I’ve known tons of folks who are the same. It has nothing at all to do with “originality” or thinking there’s anything more worthy about doing my own programming. It’s just that this is where my musical interest lies in relation to synthesis.

I think it’s an orientation thing - to me the individual elements are the instrument. They’re the drawbars and stops on the organ, just in a very different form. Even when using pre-saved self-designed presets I’m tweaking tons of parameters when playing - they’re just a jumping off point. This isn’t to say I think anything is wrong with using stock presets.

(It also makes recording multiple takes and punch-ins something of a nightmare at times).

I expected things to be different with the Eagan Matrix but - no offense to the amazing designers of the presets that ship with the Continuum and the Osmose - the included presets just don’t really resonate (ahem) with the my work. I use them to practice playing technique as I delve into the Eagan Matrix, but I haven’t been happy with my own programming work there yet (which is why I’ve yet to include more than an occasionally snippet of either instrument in the stuff I release).

Eventually! No timeline yet as we have to clear the sample library distribution with NI, but it’s already working fine since it’s built with the same guts as the last few iOS releases.
