The price of 0.00 euros is especially exciting

I know it doesn’t really matter and at the risk of sounding pedantic, was this actually designed by him, or was he just consulted on the its function/use? When I read about this yesterday I was pleasantly surprised and started looking around for clips or info on his design process (as in coding, circuit design and such). Maybe I missed it? Or maybe it’s a marketing collaboration?
I’m just curious as a person who makes things and posts stuff on YouTube. Just trying to connect the dots.

It was announced a while ago but now it’s actually in stores.
Maybe I missed it, but I haven’t seen anybody say that Huang designed this module. Per my understanding, and per Enorphin.es’ own description, he collaborated with them, and they used his production knowledge and workflows to arrive at the conceptual and mechanical designs that would result in the module.
Imagine it as a lot more like Eddy Van Halen or Adam Jones working with a guitar manufacturer to create their own signature guitar model, or like Alessandro Cortini working with Make Noise in creating the Strega, and a lot less like Bob Moog or Tony Rolando sitting down and deigning a module.
“In collaboration with ANDREW HUANG, based on his modern music production techniques ENDORPHIN.ES developed a creative audio processor with multiple blocks that can be moved around in order to achieve different flavors for sound design.”

Thanks. That makes sense. My first impression of this was reading the title of his YouTube video which was “I am making music hardware now.” My understanding of “making” comes from a different place of coding and soldering. I’ll watch the videos and maybe get a better idea of his involvement in the creation of the hardware.
I mean no disrespect to Andrew, and I end up on his channel quite often when researching gear. I just thought that I had missed this whole other side of his persona that involved things that I am deeply invested in.

aaaa thanks @madeofoak for sharing!
it’s been really exciting to bring this to life, and there are more things in the works with endorphin.es as well as other brands.
@cold_fashioned we announced ghost at superbooth so various videos went up from there a while back. we weren’t too fussed about keeping things super secret. the launch date is mainly about having a date co-ordinated where the module is available in stores around the world.
@distropolis i’ve known endorphin.es for a few years and at one point we had a giant brainstorm about ideas that could bring something unique to the table in eurorack. based on where our interests overlapped we settled on pursuing this compact stereo multi-effect as well as a cool voice that is still in the making. i help with the concepts, panel layout, dialing in some of the sonics / parameters / knob response, and manual-writing.

Hey! Wow. Nice to see you here and thanks for responding to my questions.
@andrewhuang I’m watching the release video now and it sounds very nice. I haven’t crossed over into Euro rack yet as I feel I’ll never come back. I’d probably be looking at it more for effects than synths so your module would be compelling for sure.
When I saw the video drop, I was scrolling through looking for shots of Eagle or KiCad and some soldering irons. Viewing the world through my lens of “making”. I would love to learn more about how products like this are created collaboratively as I just work alone and often miss the feedback of working on a team.
Cheers on the release! I have more specific (and maybe practical) questions about the creation of the module and bringing it to the market, but this probably isn’t the place for that discussion.

It also occured to me that near Halloween is a good time to release Ghost

Hey cool - a response straight from the source. My brain is mushy these days, you probably mentioned that it will be available soon when announcing it. I guess with today’s climate of YouTube release videos and supply chain struggles, I figured it was available when announced, but only in short quantities. Congrats – I’m definitely interested in this one.

@distropolis yes it was hard to find any headline that could really communicate the nuances of our collaboration, so i settled on something broad and basic. i’m not a coder, and my skills with electronics haven’t gone beyond soldering a few diy kits, so it’s been a privilege to be able to rely on established synth folk for the design and manufacturing of the things we dream up together. for that reason as well, i may not be able to tell you much about bringing it to market, unless it’s on the side of creating compelling demos!
@starthief it’s funny, none of us thought of this at all - we had a september date that we ended up needing to postpone
@cold_fashioned no worries, and thanks! everyone has such different approaches when it comes to releasing these things and getting the word out.

@andrewhuang, welcome to the subjective but rewarding world of Product Design:)

I’m at the point of releasing a few products for the first time. Considering kits vs. built, instruction manuals, marketing and such. So many costs hidden running a business like this it is a little disheartening. I think you are on to something working with an established company to realize ideas. Building it from the ground up is a trip.

I had a cassette of various 120 bpm EBM and techno tracks that I listened to on headphones when I needed to walk (or march…) to the railway station down the road in time to get my train to university. I don’t think I ever missed a train that wasn’t late for other reasons.
Perhaps that’s why I gravitate to 60bpm now that I’m older and not in such a hurry.

the new Arturia keyboard is up for preorder on Reverb. Minifreak, a expanded version of Microfreak. picture in case that link gets taken down til after the official launch:
looks pretty great, but removing CV outs kills the joy for me – at least half of my Microfreak usage is as a CV controller.

Oh dang, yeah, that’s an odd and disappointing decision.

It looks ghastly… but the specs are pretty impressive.
Also, comes with a VST version for editing or using your patches in multiple DAW tracks… that is a really interesting idea:

Trying to decide if I should set aside money for one of these or hold out for the Matrix/Polyfreak. Love the Micro and this looks more stage ready than that.
