Same thing here. Bit of a bumpy relaunch.

On the plus side for anyone who didn’t get one today - 2 more chances on the 30th!

I had one in cart, did some deep GAS reflection, and let it go (and I did remove it from my cart, in case there was any kind of holding mechanism).
But yeah, another chance later this month! And it sounds like they’re changing how they do production so there will be more frequent batches.

I quite liked the way that the special edition ones were handled a while back, it was a lottery system (which I didn’t win) but at least there was some semblance of fairness since it was a leisurely entry and notification on whether or not you’d be receiving one.
A seniority wait-list also seems like it could be a good option, I know people have been waiting 2+ years for availability - and at least some sense of confirmation that something could come to you eventually might be a bit nicer. Having your patience culminate to a make or break 30 second order window can be sort of defeating.

Oh dear. Following the analogue.co purchase model will only lead to frustration.

I wonder how much burden it would impose on WR to keep a waitlist though. It looked like they’re using Shopify (maybe), and there are waitlist plugins for it. But, even managed by an application, it’s still might be a pain in the butt for them. People who put themselves on the waitlist might not want the device any more, or they might not respond. The back and forth from trying to follow up with folks on the waitlist would be a significant energy and time expenditure that could be better spent working on new designs and production of more of existing modules.
This isn’t to say waitlists can’t work or that they haven’t been done. But, it imposes work and a burden on the company in question. I think this quote from Trent’s words on going to DTC is relevant:
Whimsical Raps started as an artistic expression - I never expected this business to grow the way it has! Our plan moving forward is an attempt to go back to these roots & focus on new and creative ideas for musical expression.
It sounds like WR is trying to productionize building modules while maintaining space for their own musical, artistic, and creative work. They also said:
We’ll be shipping devices into the future at a more human pace. Smaller quantities, but more regularly, and with a level of care & quality control that has sometimes suffered under the pressure of larger runs.
It sounds like we’ll see more production in the near future and hopefully less of the instant sell-out scenario. That said, WR should deal with the demand for their instruments in whatever way makes sense to them. If that’s smaller batches on a regular schedule, so be it. I personally wouldn’t want them to be exhausted or suffer because they were trying to meet all of the current demand for their products.
But, I’m just a guy on the internet, so, that’s how much my opinion is worth

Just as an aside, I guess some of the discussion above was mod-moved from another thread?
It felt weird to read because one moment people were talking about Chase Bliss and Endorphin.es pedals, suddenly someone says “sold out in 1 minute” without further context, and it took about 10 further posts to figure out it wasn’t one of those pedals that was sold out immediately…

Stuff’s being moved around, per mod guidance. I think some of the reply-to information gets lost in that process. Small price to pay. I debated whether I should post my thoughts in this channel but figured since what I was responding to was in the Mangrove thread I would post there and let the mods move things if they wanted to (sorry @ioflow !)

Yeah, it’s no problem and I figured out after about ten posts that it was about Mangrove - it was just funny as sometimes there’s context info like “moved these posts from thread x” and this time there wasn’t so I was kind of WTF for a minute

This looks pretty cool, haven’t seen it mentioned here yet. Available for pre-order:
https://phonicbloom.com/loopstyler/
The Loopstyler is a powerful pocket synthesizer capable of running multiple sound engines and effects at once. It can handle a large amount of samples on the SD card, limited only by the card capacity. Browse and organize them easily to be used in patches, play them back with at least 32‑voices polyphony, smooth time stretching and pitch shifting.

I think the answer is buying used. I can’t deal with the stress of trying to click fast enough, and I want to get on with my life, so I bit the bullet and bought it used. Couldn’t be happier.

Yes, I don’t think this move has been taken lightly at an operation of their very moderate scale.

I’m sure we’ll see some sicko selling this exact module on Reverb by next week for the low, low price of $1200
Everything is getting smaller meanwhile my sight is getting worse.

Could Mangrove have gotten the information of the people who have ordered through Schneiders or other ventors and fill these orders first? That would be most fair. Waiting for so long on an order just so you need to “compete” with others who haven’t on another online order is not cool really.
I think that WR should look at what Chase Bliss did in order to expand. Their success story is a good example. And with a European warehouse made easy to order from both continents.

Chase Bliss was definitely innovative with their Reverse Mode C after having seen what exclusive, limited runs do on the market. They opened up orders for anyone who wanted one, but there was a shortened window of about 5 weeks.

Why are we assuming that WR want to expand? In fact they pretty much said in their email that they want to get back to their roots of being a small producer focusing on artistic innovation.
I think it’s important to acknowledge the GAS driven feeling that as consumers we deserve and are owed everything that ever exists at our immediate convenience.
If selling modules in this way means Trent and team has more time and energy to do new cool things, and more importantly, not get burnt out in the process, then this way is better, regardless of how much it inconvenience people who feel they deserve the modules.
