absolutely love the fact there’s a dedicated 8mu card…the hype is strong with this one

I had the chance to play with this a few months back and it’s a thing of beauty. It also sounds fantastic. Porosity seems to have been a big factor in the design process i.e. how does it blend with other things you might already have, like pedals. Highly recommended! It’s incredibly expressive when you play it with an 8mu.

Welcome to the world of being one of the European countries outside of the EU (I’m not based in the UK, but this is how it is for all gear here. VAT + import/customs fees)

I didn’t see any hints that it would be limited to UK. They had a signup button and it seems like they’ll sell the first batch to whoever is on that list.

Sorry, I was loose in my language. I meant be available from stores located outside the UK. Thonk does ship internationally but it would be nice to avoid the customs fees.

yeah, I wouldn’t expect to see it outside of the thonk store for some time

As for the US. I buy kits from Thonk every now and then, and they quickly and easily ship to the US. I have never had to pay VAT or duty. Shipping to the US via FedEx-hybrid is usually about 14 to 18 GBP for a package with the parts for a module or two. At some dollar value US duties might kick in. But most things I buy are a few hundred dollars or less.
Apparently (I am not a tax professional), there is something called the De Minimis Threshold below which a shipment is not subject to duty. It is $800.
Update: there is apparently no De Mimimis Threshold between the UK and the US. Nor for any European country or the EU and the US. Which just goes to show: I have no idea what I’m talking about. You have been warned.

Oh, the gesture controls will definitely come in handy with this!

Yeah I buy from Thonk a fair bit and it just comes like any other Fedex package, no fuss no muss. Sometimes they have specials and lower the threshold for free shipping - tough to beat that. And in the States we get that sweet VAT-free price.

Folks seem a little uninterested. Perhaps it has some magic sauce, but does seem anticlimactic for the now.

I’ve been on the list from the U.S. Waiting anxiously.

It reminded me of Nopia

Revealing anything in the wake of a Teenage Engineering hype-cyclone1 would be hard, but the aesthetic similarity did feel especially awkward timing.

1 Sadly necessary standard disclaimer: this is not a knock, just the reality in which we of this thread are also complicit.

I think I’m talking about inscrutability because it is might be a narrative feature that is desirable for a maker, they get to tell us about what they do without actually giving away how they do it.

Hehe. That works as an apt description for most all of the Monome and Whimsical Raps stuff at first glance until you go digging to find the actual technical details.

I love my Mixiplexer and I am glad Josh is revisiting the concept, or rather, expanding on it. Though have to admit, this is making my brain explode a bit. The Mixiplexer is already incredibly deep.

MATRIXPLEXER

4x4 2D scanning matrix mixer with axis-independent scan modes, slopes and automative features.

This module is a mutant future cousin to the Mixiplexer we made back in 2012, And adds a ton of things I had wanted to add way back when.

Select and animate input and output mixes for movement, reveals, spatialization and syncopative rhythms…Sequence mixes and effects… add space and time to feedback work… Syncopate swells and panning with a clock source… the list goes on.

Transport
X and Y select active cross-points, or channels, in the matrix-

Dot mode is exclusive, and scan position centroid is mapped to corresponding channel according to slider position and input CV.

Bar mode opens all channels in selected row or column consecutively, according to slider and CV.

Scroll Mode invokes internal “through zero” LFOs that scan the matrix continuously and seamlessly in any direction, at a rate set by the Sliders and CV.

Shape knob and CV adjust the crossfade slope between channels, anywhere from hard switching to linear crossfades , extending to gating multiple channels simultaneously.

The Trigger input allows each mode to be sync’d with an external clock.

I/O
There are 4 DC coupled inputs and 4 output mixes with mute switches. Low noise linear VCAs handle the audio, post input attenuators.

Row and Mix CVs add to X and Y scan CVs and will gate respective channels.

Expansion
Digital expansion is possible via rear header.

Knobs
Knobless trimmer or knobbed version will be available.

Shooting for shipping January 2025, add your name to our email list via our website for updates on pre-orders, etc. Price TBD.
