“encounters on shortwave” is a sonic exploration of the hidden conversations on the radio band. It features a mix of raw static, listener messages, translated lyrics, morse code, and unidentified transmissions, capturing the unseen world of shortwave radio.
Joseph Baader is a sound artist and composer based in Düsseldorf. In his work he explores algorithms, boxes, surfaces and field recordings of the every day onto their musical and poetic potential. His radio pieces and electroacoustic compositions have been played at several international festivals.
