I think the main thing keeping Reaktor from working directly with the Grid is the way that it handles OSC. OSC in Reaktor can only be single numbers, whereas the way serialosc for Monome works is with lists. If serialosc was changed to have a different OSC item layout then it should be possible to make them compatible.

Yeah. So for example in serialosc to set an LED the command is:

/grid/led/level/set x y level

which wonā€™t work with reaktor. But if serialosc also understood

/grid/led/level/set/x/y level

then it would be Reaktor compatible. Similarly for all the other commands.

Iā€™d love to see this happen. Iā€™m amazing by the power of blocks, coming from modular it feels really familiar. Able to build much more elaborate voices than with my eurorack. Messing around with it the main thing i miss is the feel of my hardware sequencer, Kria.

Does anyone have any tips for sending CV and gate signals to my modular from within Ableton? I am using a Presonus Quantum with DC Coupled outputs, it works great with reaktor standalone, but I canā€™t seem to get it to work with live. I have Reaktor on one midi track, and am routing the audio to a group, with individual channels outputing pairs of audio through the interface outputs. I can see the signals in the channel meters, but no signal appears to actually reach my modular. Anyone had similar issues or does anyone have any tips for this sort of scenario?

Could you send a screenshot of the track?

The Reaktor plugin doesnā€™t have manual access to your soundcard like the standalone version does. The Audio To parameter on the Ableton track (above the fader) is set to ā€œMasterā€ by default, which routes that track to the Master track (on the far right). Change this setting to the output that you want to use on your audio interface.

When using larger numbers of outputs, youā€™ll need to do some track routing. Youā€™ll need to add additional audio tracks, and set the Audio From parameter to Reaktorā€™s track, along with the output that you want to listen to. Set Monitor to In and Audio To to the output that you want to use on your audio interface.

Thanks @trickyflemming, in the end I had somehow disabled the track feeding the audio out, so it was a simple fix. Hereā€™s a picture of the routing for anyone who wants to get something similar working. Sequencing the modular with Reaktor is a lot of fun.

As a further update, hereā€™s an image of a simple patch outputting 3 reaktor oscillators into my modular. Iā€™m running them through a Korgasmatron, with envelopes being generated from the gate output. Iā€™m only scratching the surface of reaktor-to-modular possibilities, but itā€™s already heaps of fun.

Does anyone know of a hardware CV sequencer that works at all similarly to Reaktorā€™s Shift Sequencer? Mainly, having multiple modulation ā€œlanesā€ with different step lengths per lane and gates that are decoupled from pitch steps?

I suppose the new MicroBrute 2S sequencer gets pretty close to this, and it could also be achieved with a few individual CV sequencers and a trigger sequencer running from the same clock, but I think Iā€™d be prone to interacting with such a setup very differently from an all-in-one version. Of course, I could just get an ES-8 and thatā€™d solve this, tooā€¦

Iā€™m new to Reaktor and this sequencer is definitely one thing that has jumped out to me! Itā€™s very interesting and different from what Iā€™ve used in hardware, but still intuitive and easily musical. Being able to move the ā€œwindowā€ of enabled steps is also super fun, especially if that could be mapped to a controller or modulated.

If your setup is at all amenable to getting the computer hooked into it, I recommend the ES-8 option. (I find myself a little resistant to bringing in Reaktor lately, despite it being pretty easy for me, but then I just as often lately find myself resistant to messing with synths at all. I do wish there were an easier way to try the ES-8 out - there isnā€™t exactly a point to cloning it in VCVRack or whateverā€¦)

The shift sequencer is pretty awesome. The closest Iā€™ve seen in hardware is the Cirklon.

Itā€™s quite similar to Kria on the Ansible. Kria has a similar flow where each aspect of the sequence (gate, pitch, octave, etc.) is on a separate lane. The lanes can have different lengths and speeds.

ah, it sure is similar! I had sort of avoided learning about Ansible up to this point (due to frugality, not lack of interest) but Kria would definitely do what I am after.

I think what makes kria so special is the clock dividers on each parameter. Anyone know if there is a shift seq mod that allows this?

Iā€™ve been gradually working my way through the Toybox suite of Blocks and just happily discovered that with a bit of sequencing, the granular sample player module acts A LOT like g.grainer from the ppooll collection for Maxā€¦ I highly recommend it for anyone that wants a grainer-like option in Reaktor.

Toybox Audio have just released a teaser for their upcoming Nano pack. I guess the Euro equivalent would be the Erica Synths Pico stuff?

Anyway, I think the sound is great, and the CPU & design are very laptop friendly. I could imagine building a patch & performing it with controllers without having to look at the screen much/at all, unlike most other premium blocks.

Toybox is doing a ton of really good stuff. Right now Iā€™m resisting buying the Synth Bundle, which has a full-on Piano Roll block in it that looks really nice. The strangely-named User Blocks pack has a few really good things, and there is a Free Pack as well, distinct from all the other free packs.

Hard agree. The piano roll block is astonishing, really is should cost $50 on its own so that pack is great value for money.

David who runs Toybox is also very active on the NI forum giving support & general Reaktor help. He was also very helpful when I was having some specific issues with his more esoteric blocks.

hey gang - partially inspired by the excellent Cybernetic Music/Roland Kayn/Feedback Systems/AI - Process - lines (llllllll.co) thread, was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a Block thatā€™s similar to the Serge ā€˜Peak and Troughā€™ comparator (?) ā€“

Iā€™ve got the Michael Hetrick pack, along with some Toybox stuff - Iā€™m almost positive itā€™s hiding right in front of me in the logic section, but canā€™t seem to find anything (or much documentation, ha)
