Very cool and feels positively very early 00’s to me. Reminds me of the times I got into music software, although it perhaps sounds a lot better than what I was using at the time but well memories grow sweeter with time.

Yeah I have to say I kind of wish it was possible to run a copy of ol’ Reason 2.5… that was my first ‘real’ piece of music software (saved up for ages to buy it). I loved the fun aspect of it… and I guess the simplicity (not too mention skeuomorphism for someone who had no chance at the time of owning a real studio setup ).

I tried Reason again recently and it’s all a bit of a mess really… multiple windows and stuff all over the place.

My long-term goal was to try and develop a bunch of devices (synth, drum machine, sequencer) in Reaktor to make a fun little Reason type rack/groovebox for jamming on the sofa etc… these devices were taken from a drum machine I’ve been working on for that.

Really curious about these but away from my computer - did you patch them in core or primary? I’ve been wanting to get into core (again, seems like an 18 month regular itch I get).

Cheers Pal. In general the audio side is handled in Core and the control side (mapping, scaling, switching etc.) is handled in primary. I’ve not got my head around certain things in Core that I find a doddle in primary (mainly control scaling and switching etc.).

Next device is nearly done… I’ve had the delay built for ages now (use it quite a lot with my guitar)… it’s a ‘Frippertronics’ type delay. Very long delay times with gradual decay and degradation.

This kind of thing is possible to setup on other plugins… but I find it nice to have a simple device (especially the ‘Rec’ switch to enable recording to the delay buffer). The Wear parameter is controlling multiple parameters (filtering, saturation, modulation etc.). Will probably go up on the UL next week.

See attached Nymphes Reaktor editor for anyone that might be interested (I had to update my patch for the new v2 firmware).

It is working ok for me. If anyone fancies trying it out feel free to download and have a go.

Although there are other editors out there now I thought this might still be of interest to some (I tried to keep this neat and in keeping with the Nymphes aesthetic).

Notes:

Main controls are Pink. Mod controls are white.
Mod source (LFO2, M-Wheel etc.) is selected from the bottom of the panel and edited using the white sliders to the right of the main panel controls.
Env 2=1 button links Envelope 1 to Envelope 2 controls… this means the VCA and VCF envelope controls can be adjusted easily from the front panel hardware controls (without having to use shift)… very handy IMO.
The bottom displays show M-Wheel, PB, AT and Velocity values (and can also be edited from the panel).

*The Nymphes logo has been used with kind permission from Dreadbox (I emailed them and asked).

I don’t suppose any Reaktor-heads could help me out with this - no response from the Reaktor forum as yet:

I’m trying to make a double TG-8H ensemble for an upcoming performance (it’s so awesome - thanks everyone for your contributions to this thing).

I’m running into two issues - one the Random and Random TG makes a pop. I guess that’s par for the course but this happens to the other version of TG-8H in the ensemble even though I’ve changed the names of all the ICSends.

It even happens when the specific instance of TG-8H has its volume down.

Is this because the Randoms push the audio engine and essentially restart it briefly or something else? It seems to happen even when one TG8 isn’t connected to the output.

I really would like to be able to randomize one without it effecting the other, and/or for there to be no ‘pop’ if that’s possible.

I suspect it’s the engine being pinged and something to do with the switches changing the specific TGs being selected.

I might turn the sample rate way down to 11k and see if it still happens while watching a CPU profiler to see if the pop is functional vs performance related. You might also wire up a simple fader after the ensembles and see if the pop makes it to output through that.

Indeed, being aware of the occurrence of GREs can be crucial. In any case, it is important to view GREs not only as constraints, but also as assets.

In particular, a GRE is to my knowledge the only way to clear the buffer of the “Single Delay” Module, which can be very useful if, in other respects, the features of this Module are sufficient for your needs.

Might you be able to make this work better by creatively using a host? Thinking of VCV Rack’s VST hosting or Bitwig.

If you could break the instances of the ensemble out into seperate instances of the VST host and then trigger the reset event on the host level with a control that would also momentarily mute the instance of the ensemble, might you not be able to isolate the reset even to a single ensemble instance and mitigate the pop?

I think that’s possible eventually. The ensemble is the TG-8H which is amazing but uses switches when you randomize it and that pops everything. Shame as two of these running concurrently is an awesome live set up on a laptop. IAC can’t get it done by the gig so doing my usual of resampling for hours and then I’ll chop and either Ableton it, or try to use the Flowkiller (Octatrack). Or…maybe just Moog guitar again.

Can you run two (for each instance, four total), then crossfade between each pair (within the ensemble or host) to cover the click? Nice anyway to be able to set crossfade time for smoooth stuff…

I’m not a Reaktor user, but this would be easy to do in Max (if you do) with Reaktor in the VST host.

Thanks - I tried but the thing with Reaktor is that even if the ensemble isn’t connected to an output, the switches inside trigger a Global Reset Event regardless. Truly annoying! I suppose I could put it on two different tracks in Ableton and do it that way but it’s not really the fluid, improvised choppy sound I was hoping for.

I’m thinking eventually I’ll build a similar patch in Max. The latest post by the Reaktor team on NI’s Forum wasn’t particularly encouraging wrt to Reaktor’s future tbh. There are a lot of diehards on the forum who are looking for the silver lining but it’s hard not to see this as anything other than denial.

Anyway, that particular patch is so awesome it’s still worth it just as a source to resample.

Ah I see, so I guess it needs to re-start the DSP chain to make changes… well I learnt something about Reaktor today.

Is the same true of Skrewell? I’ve not tried the TG, but I used to mess with Skrewell a bit. Re-building it somewhere else could be fun… is there a signal flow digram of it anywhere?

If the problem is only tied to Switch Modules causing a GRE, could these Switch Modules be replaced with combinations of Selector and List Modules, which do not cause a GRE when another input is selected ?

Well - Reaktor is sort of signal flow diagram in itself though this ensemble has a lot of icsends. I’ve looked at it and I’m not sure I’d be able to port it 1 to 1 but the concept of 8 sound engines mixed in groups of 4 (I think that’s how it works) with various filters and limiters and a reverb unit is the basic premise afaict.

Screwell is the same…anything with switches = POP everytime you do it.

And @thom - I suppose you could but judging from that list in the link above and the complexity of the ensemble, I think it’d be essentially a new build to accomplish it. It’s really more of a sound design tool…or just don’t change engines during a set.

I’ve been practicing tonight making the pops a feature, doing during glitchy sections like key clacks on a sax etc. It’s sort of work I think. I may persevere and see if I can pull of an ‘itchy-scratchy’ 25 minute set with it on the 15th.

I think most Reaktor users are familiar with the boscomac ensembles. While many of them were available for free, the creator just recently uploaded all of them, including the previously paid ensembles, to the User Library.

Between 2012 and 2016, I developed a collection of 50 ensembles Reaktor including 28 instruments and 22 virtual effects. It was a lot of work but it seemed important to me to make them accessible by opting for the donatioware model. Today, I would like to warmly thank all the people who participated with enthusiasm: merci.
This collection is now (completely) free. Note that it is (unfortunately) necessary to have the full version of Reaktor (v6.3). In terms of license, you can use these ensembles to produce your music (commercial or not), but you can’t sell them, of course. (If you have a really specific question: boscomac-at-free-dot-fr)

There is a handy one-click download for the whole shebang at his site linked above. Some of my favorites have been Air Piano, Artefact, Floodverb, and Magnitude.

I think that user ensembles can often fall into one of two categories: Absolutely gorgeous UIs with bone-stock, basic functionality, or kitchen-sink do-it-alls with horrible UIs. Somehow boscomac managed to avoid both of those!
