That sounds fantastic! Are you playing preloaded reels, or recording anything over the top? I’ve yet to really master this script, but this sounds exactly like what I’d be after.

Yes! Thank you for this. Sounds wonderful!

Thanks! @mattlowery I recorded different lines with a Mangrove into Reels directly with the record function and there’s 4 separate parts happening at once, each one for each track. I’ve used prerecorded samples as well though. It’s great, just like using a 4 track.

I have a problem. I’m using 2 samples of different lengths. The first one I load on the first reels is perfect while the second one is cut, I also tried to reverse them but the second I use is always cut, am I wrong?

iirc each buffer is 60s long (that can be tweaked however)

Reely enjoying Reels! Thank you!

An issue here… I’m playing a sample from a wav file and the pitch is noticeably higher when I play at the default speed in Reels. Using speed controls I am unable to get the speed/pitch correct. Am I doing something wrong?

Probably sample rate conversion from 44100 to 48000 (norns default)?

the samples is one 19s long and the other 32s. If i put one of them into the first reels there’s no problem, when i put the other is cut.

20 characters of embarrassment and humility.

in norns update 190930 we fixed the panning in softcut— now equal power, correct channel orientation, but also the param range is -1 to 1 (with 0 center) whereas the old param was 0.5 center.

did reels get updated for this? if not i’m happy to PR.

I believe Reels was not updated for the panning. At least here all four channels are panned to the left.

@its_your_bedtime PR submitted to fix. (if anyone wants to manually fix your install, here’s how: https://github.com/itsyourbedtime/reels/pull/2/files)

Thanks for PR, missed that softcut update  Merged now!

Do you think it would be possible to add midi control to the individual track volumes (and maybe panning)?

This would make it a bit more convenient when using Reels live.

I’m loving Reels, but I’m having a hell of a time getting a saved reel to reload successfully. Most of the time the per-track start-end times are set properly but no audio comes out at all.

I just wanted to say thanks for the Midi features. So: Thanks a lot

i was jammin with reels last night and came up with some stuff i was into, so i saved my reel and also saved the two clips i had recorded. flash forward to this morning and reels is hanging when trying to load my reel from last night. after awhile, i can make my way back to the main norns menu and hit sleep, but it takes a little bit. i’ve also tried creating a new reel and loading the two clips i recorded last night, but the audio is super distorted and blown out sounding.

i can provide matron output if need be, but it’s not really showing much.

sounds like some issues with buffer write/read from softcut.

its known that the write process is too slow and blocks crone process from receiving OSC while read/write is ongoing.

for the distortion problem: data in the buffer is in float format and isn’t clipped to unit range. that’s ok for playback depending on levels. when encoded to output file, values are probably wrapping instead of clipping.

i’ll revisit both issues when i get a chance. as ever, contributions would be appreciated.

thanks so much. i really appreciate you looking into it!

i need to start diving deep into the norns studies here pretty soon so that i can figure out how everything works and can contribute more.

pushed a little update for reels. no new features, just small code improvements (polls for input level indication, softcut phase poll for position)
