I’d be inclined to participate (if not this one maybe the July one ?) but maybe I misunderstood and this is exclusively for the few people listed above in the first message? Which I would understand completely, I don’t think my own contribution would bring any value to the table visibility wise and apart from seeing it mention I’ve got no real connection to Rhizome, having never been to the US…

But I’m keen to try and use this crisis to generate more collaborative behaviors, which for me means the first step is try to find where it is I’m inclined to build collabortive behaviors and something implying this community seems like the best starting point I could think of.

Anyway anyhow, I’ll be curious to listen to the result, so many admirable names in this list

Yeah I can get a piece submitted by then.

I’m open to your participation Louis

Most of the folks either live in the area “near” the venue, have travelled to play a show there, or been to a synth meetup hosted by Rhizome.

But distance was not my main concern when selecting…I think it’s nice to start with mostly locals and branch out to include more exceptions someday. But again, the main goal is to make some positive energy and re-direct our minds toward helpful community oriented action.

Some included above reside in Pennsylvania or North Carolina which, though still on the same coast, are quite a bit too far away if I wanted to restrict entry to local artists

It’s all good though!

It’s great, and I’d never take offense if there was some kind of restriction, the boundaries can define the meaning of a particular operation / creative endeavour. I’ve been looking for similar concepts locally actually, but they’re either not quite to my taste (in the sense that I don’t feel “connected” to it in most ways) or they’re just… not there at all. And by all accounts, this is the place, virtual but to me very real, that I keep coming back to, so I’ll keep an eye out for these things here.

Also, I think keeping afloat places that try to offer real physical realizations / spaces of virtual / like minded online communities is a real concern, it is fundamental that these places exist, we need them a lot. So from a purely ideological and political standpoint, this is very much my concern, would it only be to know that you guys have a place you can go to and perform and share and shoot videos of said performances !

all good for may 19th here. have no idea what I’m going to make but thinking of keeping it pretty ambient and improvisational with the short turnaround :ok_hand:

I could have something submitted by May 19. Given the turnaround and a currently hectic workload, it may be something recently recorded and never released, if that’s okay.

I’m up to contribute a song and I’m up for participating in a live stream. I’ve sent an email to Jake about mastering/participation. I’ll let you know when I hear back!

All good to get something together for the 19th as well. I’ll tear my patch out and get started on some ideas. I could also join in on the live streaming, although this would be my first time doing so.

I will get something ready by the 19th as well.

Also @glia, I haven’t ever done a live stream before, so I would much prefer if someone else took hold of that (or at least taught me everything needed to make it work). Although if no one volunteers, I will do my best to try and learn quickly!

Thanks–the deadline is fine with me. As to participation, the spirit of Rhizome is about inclusiveness and community. Artists from around the US and the world have been performed, taught, and attended shows at Rhizome. Since I’ve been streaming regularly since the pandemic started, and have some experience with the lines community stream, I’d be happy to work on the streaming events.

Excellent

Thanks everyone

Have the artist been selected already?

It’s an open invitation so unless someone doesn’t meet the deadline I’ll leave a spot for them. However, if the total number of tracks exceeds 30 then I may suggest splitting some off for a second volume.

We would still love for you to participate @Nonmimeticform :slightly_smiling_face:

Does anybody have ideas for the name of the comp? I’ve had some time to think but nothing compelling seems to stick

The working title I shared with the artist drafting mock ups for the cover is Stolon: a Rhizome Compilation. Would yall prefer something else?

…Stolon Audio Zine?
…Stolon Issue #1?
…something else entirely?

This is not that critical to decide right now but figured more heads are better than one (especially if your work will be represented by the name).

Naming is so much easier in my own practice but it’s a bit harder to think of something for a group project like this.

Grow Upwards could be cool. Stolon is also cool though.

Stolon and Grow Upwards are both pretty great. Had to look up what a stolon is and love it! So I guess I’m more partial to that name haha. Having Rhizome in the title is a good idea as you have done.

Just sent my track to your email @glia by the way!
