Hey everyone…all the tracks have been mastered!

We’d like to ensure that you are happy with the adjustments so please request access to the shared folder if you’d like to give final approval for your song. Let me know if you are interested by Wednesday 5/27…otherwise I will assume that ya’ll are willing to be surprised by the fine job Jake did  .

As always, let me know if you have other questions about our compilation.

edit: 5/26…i’ve only heard from a few so last call before we move on to the next steps, anybody else?

Circling back regarding a stream concert…

Would those interested like to make a new thread to organize? Or should we just use this one?

I’m fine with either. And I’d likely be interested in participating…

Since we’re mainly done discussing the compilation, maybe keep the discussion in this thread? I’ll start with a running list of who’s interested in playing a streaming show. If thou wouldst play, throw thine hat in the ring.

Hey friends

Can all participants shoot me a link they’d like fans to see? Could be your personal website, bandcamp, or some social media account.

I thought about including a blurb/bio for each artist but really want to focus as much attention on the music itself and the reason we came together for this collective project. Please let me know if you feel differently though…

UPDATE: Sorry for the delayed communication everyone. I’ve been mulling the current affairs all weekend and contemplated whether our release should be postponed. Despite this, I reached out to all of you to continue preparation as planned. My intention in doing so was to honor the collective effort of all who jumped in voluntarily to support the space.

However, I had also been in contact w/ rhizome staff to seek guidance and confirm that they agree. The political climate in the country (and frankly, many peoples’ priorities) have shifted quite rapidly since protests began…we want to acknowledge that.

All programming and planned events thru Rhizome are postponed this week and the 6/5 release has been delayed. As a result, I have two questions for yall:

  1. Should we wait a week? two? Or until the next Bandcamp day?

  2. Rhizome staff would like to share proceeds from the comp with another organization and are open to your suggestions…which local or national outlets do you recommend? (focused on fighting police brutality / racial injustice and promoting mental health)

As always, reply here or more privately if that suits your preferences

Just wanted to jump in and say I support yall’s decision. I’m happy for the release to come out whenever it does–preferably where it can have the most impact in terms of support for Rhizome, as well as not distract from the conversation.

I have been donating to a handful of orgs (bail funds, mutual aid) both here where I am locally in central NC, as well as in Minneapolis…maybe there’s an opportunity to highlight some organizations like that close to where Rhizome operates in DC? I think that could be cool.

Totally agree with the decision, and wonder whether adding a component which encourages donors to match a contribution to a nationwide bail fund might help ground the fundraiser in the current reality?

I will pass on the suggestion

Thank you

Also any thoughts so far about a reasonable timeline for release? I just want to try to get majority opinion to inform the final decision from Rhizome staff

The way things are going it might be better to wait a few days before making a decision. In general tho I’m definitely leaning toward waiting.

Narrowed down to two dates for this, please help me pick

  • June 12th
  • June 19th

I voted the 19th only because of the overlap with this.

Wondering whether having a fundraiser for a non poc oriented org on Juneteenth might be taking space on a day where voices of color should be at the forefront?

Coinciding the release with the band camp day makes sense to me but the stream might be better on a different day?

thanks

i thought about that…seems like it could be seen multiple ways but I think Rhizome staff willingness to donate all proceeds on release day to another worthy organization makes release less likely to be seen as taking $$$ that could’ve gone to POC

it could still be viewed by some as diverting attention from black voices but we then find ourselves in a weird situation since i’m curating/organizing

i don’t know the ethnicity of all participants but i imagine that i might be the only black person involved, so it may not be wholly inappropriate to release a project i spearheaded

further complicating matters…i don’t actually celebrate Juneteenth so wouldn’t necessarily want to center myself as justification for releasing that day

so
i dunno

most folks seem ok with the idea of releasing the comp this friday, sending all 6/19 sales to a black org, and allowing money going forward to be for our original purpose: helping Rhizome

this all makes sense! that’s awesome that all revenue from 6/19 is being donated

Thanks again for organizing this @glia–the plan sounds reasonable. I’m planning to donate to support this and encourage others to do so if you’re financially stable.

Any more details on how the stream will function mechanically? I have the OBS software set up on my computer for twitch, but I’ve never participated in a live stream concert before
