For those interested in following we’ll be posting some Hordijk explorations on our Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/sandshairy/. It’ll probably vary between weirdo improv stuff and more melodic things under development for compositional usage.

does anyone know if epoch plans to build more of the benjolin?

Unfortunately I believe Epoch Modular is no longer around, or at least MIA. Their website is gone and the FB page is inactive.

Some more Rob videos, not as high quality as some of the others but I think a little more personal and little more philosophical:

The second in particular about half-way through talks about how he wanted to build an instrument that lasts (at least) 50 years.

After Later Audio was making a Benjo-style module for a bit. You might be able to find a used one.

There are some board layouts floating around on github if you are comfortable with DIY.

i am constantly working on ways to remember my patches. This one I did with an iPad app which allows layering and drawing with a pencil. Green is audio, orange is gate/envelope, yellow is cv for pitch. Next i will draw the connections for the modulation madness.

I aaw them when I visited Rob’s studio. I love the black cases!! Almost to the point that I’d ask him to swap my current case with one similar to this one… :purple_heart::purple_heart:

Haha, the black cases look great. The picture is a bit misleading since they appear to be slimline - but no change in size. re: remembering Hordijk patches, I’m not there yet. I’m still mostly exploring a few modules at a time to improve my intuition for how they sound and what they’re capable of. There’s also a lot of going back still to Rob’s videos and trying to achieve similar results.

I have a sort of ‘patchbook’ which I could share here. It’s a collection of things that I tried and some that are derivatives of what I learned from Todd Barton. You could consider them starting points for further exploration.

Wow, nice notation system! I’ll definitely be giving these a try this week.

Thanks! These look good. I’ll try them when my system is ready (probably sometime in early 2022!) :stuck_out_tongue:

TIL: after Rob comments about the LFOs and the oscillators not specifically designed for pitch duty plus some references about this in the Muffwiggler thread, I tried to see if LFO A as well as Rungler A could track pitch. I patched it up with an SQ-1, seems to work quite well over 1-2 octaves if the relevant MOD knob is around 9. Doing it with Rungler in sparse mode is particularly interesting due to the stranger timbres one can achieve.

Nice and gnarly! I saw the gnomedrone name: I had an album released called dronegnome (some 10 years ago, I think)

Quick overview of the Hordijk System, nothing new here that hasn’t been covered elsewhere but it’s < 5 minutes and gets right to the point with audio demo of OSC HRM / 24dB FILTER + Waza DM-2W Delay: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CGvmb5FjbG4/

Ha! cool! Really curious about the new twin envelope and the phaser module. Rob told me he was going to make some changes to them but I haven’t heard them yet. Because of Covid I don’t travel much. The twin envelope he told me (and I agreed) he included features that were too difficult to manage, like you can output the mix of A into B1. Interesting feature but I never use it. And the dual freq shifter has been altered as well. Which also makes sense.
Looking forward to more vids!!

Yeah, the twin envelope seems simpler now from previous iterations? One thing that’s new is that audio rate behavior is improved, you can pulse at rates up to 20khz. So DUAL ENV is now pretty great for oscillator duties and S/H.

The introduction of the Envelope Follower (ENVF) required shuffling things around, basically in the standard system there are no dual treatment modules.
