a.r. hill is quite amazing on both his ‘monolith’ and the noiseboxes…

Snippets of the larger system frequently pop up on Instagram:

You should expect to pay around $5000 USD
for a full system. Totally worth it.

For a bit more variety these links have examples perhaps along the lines of what you’re looking for:

If you want to make “conventional” sounds, it sounds, to my ear at least, as good as you’d expect from a hand crafted modular synthesizer. That it really excels just as well at a more exploratory approach to synthesis is a testament to Rob’s talents as an instrument designer.

As far as relatively known artists, I know Alessandro Cortini had one at point, but I believe he has since passed it onto Todd Barton.

I think the most active thread on Hordijk modular is the 98 page one on muffwiggler

Looks like the waiting list is 18 months.
I was very close to getting one about 4 years ago and it’s still the one system I would love to try.

I put in my order February last year. It should be ready around September/October. My understanding is that he literally builds these by hand himself and only makes about 10 each year. So there will probably never be more than 200-300 Hordijk Modular systems in the world.

Meant to post here a while back. I picked up a system late last year. (Rob is a great host.) It’s so good! The ergonomics of the larger system is a nice change from Euro. Having everything on 1/4” jacks feels very solid. Each module has hidden depths. Rob sneaks a lot of functionality into each module, so I’ve had to work at it to understand how each one works, it’s been fun. The sound is beautiful, and with modules such as the phaser, freq shifter and shaper the range of sounds is surprising.

If anyone in London wants to use it feel free to DM me, after lockdown ends we could work something out.

Echoing and emphasizing some similar sentiments here:

I’ve had the pleasure of owning a System way back in 2013 and then again recently. (Sold the first one
Purely for financial reasons.)

It’s so nice to have a well though out, self contained system that insulates you from
The distractions of the eurorack world.

Yes, you may not have certain functions but it
Is more than enough for expressive music making.

Each sub module in a triple panel is jammed packed with features. Build quality and sound quality are equally astounding. Also, there is MUCH to be said about the ergonomics of the layout with jacks at the bottom and knobs up top.

It is a true pleasure to work with and Rob is a gentleman among thieves who always gives
Thorough email responses to system inquiries
With his main priority being to build the highest
Quality system that suites your needs.

And with the current catalog of triple panels available, it’s always easy to design a system
For your use case. In a way, it is similar to Building
A larger system out of preconfigured Serge panels.

As Ferris Bueller said:
“It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.”

I did a quick search but couldn’t find out if Rob has ever released stuff on record… I really enjoy his live clip and am kind of amazed if he’s not released anything?!

I would definitely be interested in getting an album of Rob’s tracks - unfortunately can’t afford the system and would be next best thing

I might be wrong but I think John Chantler has some Hordijk panels as well, not sure on which releases he used them, if released.
I recently contacted Rob regarding panels/prices/waiting list but it is not a super easy decision, compared to other formats I think the prices are totally fair, also waiting is ok, I just cannot really justify it. I own a Klangbau Köln Twin Peaks which is one of my favourite sound sources. I also have a Euro Benjolin from a group thing (actually I might still have a panel/pcb set somewhere for a second one), also all the clavia modular things from Rob are quite cool. The Eurorack things go well with some CG Products modules, so actually I should just use this and call it a day.

It’s amazing what he manages to pull out of that instruments, how organically he shifts through them… it’s just very alive sounding set. Of course he designed it and knows its behaviour in and out, so it’s no wonder in that sense. Also must appreciate someone these days who doesn’t feel like he’d need to necessarily put out recordings.

I sent a message to Rob a few weeks ago regarding panels/prices/wait list but didn’t receive a reply. Do you mind telling how long ago it was that he responded with the info? What’s the current wait time?

He said more than 18 months.

The systems we ordered 18 months ago are finally ready to ship. A photo of them getting burned in his studio:

I’m excited for you, they are so damn fun to play, and to learn what he packed into each module.

For those interested in following we’ll be posting some Hordijk explorations on our Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/sandshairy/. It’ll probably vary between weirdo improv stuff and more melodic things under development for compositional usage.
