Hi there - I just uploaded a short clip. The sound source is 2 x Vari Q’s

I’d go with the 2M2. Not only is that the value in Ken’s schematic, but in all of my research, he was pretty great about updating even the smallest of details. You could always experiment by trying each value. See which of them sounds/functions best… add a switch and use them both!

are the 258 j3rk/stroh pcbs?

I have no idea :grimacing: All I know is they sound great, whatever they are!

I’m 99% sure they are.

thanks man! I really want to build one of these.

They’re probably my favorite oscillator; indeed, all of my VCOs are J3RK/Stroh Modular, and half of them are based on the 258.

Can anyone reccomend any substitute ICs for the CA3080/3086’s in the 73-75 kit? Hoping to do rock an all tayda order but if it’s not possible I’ll try to snoop out something reasonable on ebay

I think Thonk carries the CA3080 and IIRC there’s the clone AS3080 from there (or via Erica Synths, in US I think synthcube carries CA3080). I think CA3046 (or AS3046) can be a replacement for CA3086.

has anyone hailed random*source lately? i’ve tried reaching out via contact form and instagram about repair, and no response.

my communication with patchpoint has been pretty abysmal as well. they’ve had one of my 4U modules in for repair for close to a year now with no communication as to when it will be repaired, why its taking so long, and as of last communication I even told them to just send it back to me, and I haven’t been able to get a response back. pretty disappointed because prior to this I’d had pretty good interactions with them…

really wish there was a reliable shop that was willing to carry the 4u Serge torch here in the states :frowning:

I haven’t gotten an answer to my inquiry from Patch Point either. It’s very disappointing, I’ve been there in person once and it was maybe the most pleasant experience I’ve had in a music store, and I’m so happy such a shop exists, so I really hope nothing too bad has happened and that everything will be sorted out.

I’ve messaged Random Source and haven’t gotten anything back. They also haven’t had things in stock for a long time, which is a bummer and has led me to sort of abandon/give up on the idea of getting some panels in the future.

R*S have developed a reputation for next to no communication despite fullfilling orders. Your best bet might be to reach out to Matthias Herrmann (Fonitronik) for help. He is quite responsive and helpful.

Then they should put him in charge of the emails.

Sound Transform Systems. Just sayin’!

I have no personal experience there, but have read mixed reviews…plus I thought STS was outta the game no?

Lowgain might do Serge repairs, I know he was building stuff for people. I think he’s in Minneapolis now.

No, not from what I’ve heard, recently.

He’s still making all the panels and M-Class you see here:

Supposedly, these prices are up-to-date. You do have to give him a call or email as he doesn’t have a commercial site.

I’ve been buying from him since 2005 and I’ve never had issues, myself.

yea, I’ve reached out to him in the past. he’s really responsive, but seems like he has his hands full making his own stuff for the time being, and has a back log of other projects and panels.

I have ordered full panels and 4U panels directly from both patchpoint and RandomSource directly and gotten them delivered here in the states. but that was before Covid. Never had to communicate with R*S, it showed up no problem…

The patchpoint order was messed up a good deal with customs because they listed it as a musical instrument so the package was held up for some sillyness like they thought it was a wooden instrument that may have been treated with chemicals or harbored some wood borne pests or something like that, so it took a while to get it sorted out. But the folks at patchpoint were good at communicating with me with that whole situation. which is why I was particularly bummed with my more recent less than pleasant experience (sorry to derail the thread)
