I was hopping for something with a WAD, like an “Animate” panel.
Or with some processing, like ResEQ.
This looks like between La Bestia II and Mantra (without the 8-seq).
Although another voice panel, is a very powerful combination of modules.
Is Special Oscillator an NTO with a wavefolder?

I’m not sure on the oscillator but I agree, it would be REALLY nice to have the RES EQ in a panel! It’s the module that makes me debate whether or not to go the “panel” route

That’s a nice panel IMO, a great all-in-one option if you don’t want to build a big system.

my la bestia ii has arrived stateside! took 4 months from patch point bc of covid delays :hushed:

it’s my first serge. planning to add a complimentary panel next year, probably a mix n match with res eq being a priority

I’m thinking about soldering up some simple adapter cables so I can use my Teletype with my 73-75 Serge. I found some nice 3,5 mm plugs, but they are TRS/Stereo. Since (apart from one ground cable) I’ll just be using only one pole anyways, I guess I can just ignore the additional contacts. But could the slightly different shape of the stereo plug damage the mono jacks when plugging and unplugging very often?

Do plan on connecting each individual cable to the ground of the Serge? That’s a lot of extra cabling and why I’d recommend a format jumbled instead. Beyond that, guessing you should be fine as long as the tip connects to signal. I would connect ring and sleeve to ground. The jack might stick out a little bit if it’s longer than a mono one.

As far as I know it’s only necessary to connect one of the cables to the ground of the Serge, basically like this set of adapter cables. So my only worry was maybe wearing out the jacks when using the “wrong” plugs…

ah, I guess that makes sense since 1 ground connects them electrically, but I still would feel a little odd about it since you’d have to always check that you plugged the 1 ground cable in.

That’s true, so as a long term solution I’ll probably add a ground jack to my eurorack case…

I can wholeheartedly recommend adapter cables (jack to banana), just use the double ended one first to ground and destination - not hard to remember to do that. Much less fiddly and uses fewer cables than a format jumbler - never use mine now I have a bunch of custom cables

i got the la bestia today. i am quite taken aback by how rich the sound is. not sure i’ve had a synth that sounds quite this vivid in my headphones

I felt the same thing my first time! Also on speakers. It sounds like the sound is “outside” of the cones. It’s nuts :black_heart:

Just finished soldering up these Euro-Serge adapter cables

Ground connection is established by a Euro stackcable permanently connected to one of the 73-75s adapter jacks but I’ll probably add a banana ground jack to the Euro case sometime…

Is there a reason for the trs 3.5mm?

No, I just used the TRS ones because they were the only ones available at the place where I bought the cables and jacks, TS are definitely the ideal way to go. I actually snapped the ring contacts off after short-circuiting one of the cables. So next time I’ll definitely use TS…

I fell into a bit of a youtube math rabbit hole and was lurking around on wikipedia reading about the concept of the logistics map. It made me wonder if anyone has applied this concept to an oscillator (I know about the cv generating module from klangbau köln) Like if you had a knob that increased the value of the rate, and x and n were mapped to the periodicity of a waveform you could scrub back and forth between stable oscillation and into chaos. I don’t math enough to make that idea make anymore sense than that. But the animated graphs of the logistics function on the wikipedia page reminded me of the waveshaper in my serge.

So I was googling around more and found this paper where someone has digitally modeled analog serge waveshapers. And I thought that was neat, and hadn’t seen this posted anywhere else.

Random “fantasy” here…

Lines math-masters collaborate on a killer logic module…

Just thinking out loud…

here is an example from doepfer on the logistic map.
Although it is designed to operate at cv rate it can be used as a basis for an audio oscillator.
