@simonvanderveldt images/downloads now use digitaloceans’ “volumes” service so we’re good for now

also, just doubled the RAM and CPU thanks to DO’s new pricing. hopefully this site will feel much faster starting now.

btw what’s the current position of things? @tehn

do you mean stats?

4g RAM, 2xCPU, 40g, + 40g volume

running cost, and maybe to remind of the donation link?

I already have a DO account, is there some other way I can help? I’m out on sick leave and have no income at the moment, but I’d still be able, and happy, to contribute a small amount to hosting costs.

I’ll remember to be cognizant of hosting costs when posting photos. When posting, I can host photos on my own services to help with disk space.

I was also wondering if you’d looked in to offloading media to a CDN. It might reduce costs a little more. I have my spouse’s site set up with Amazon S3, but if you’re on DO you could use their service.

Thanks much.
Jimmy

thanks for the kind offer— we’re not too concerned right now about raising funds for the server— there are more urgent donations to be made. perhaps this will change in the future, but for now, we’re good!

we use DO’s spaces for storage— the bandwidth and space is pretty cheap on that side. main server expense is just having faster processing w/ more memory… so the forum runs well. definitely we’d prefer people to host big files elsewhere, but photos/etc are pretty standard.

Totally noob question, may I ask how much space/bandwidth/Cpu/memory forum like this consume? From the outside looks like it is not too much people here so just wonder about that.
