Always curious about this as neunaber stuff is sensational sounding. Need a good preamp though apparently.

These mini preamps sound great (I shall be picking up the 5150 clone).

AWesome! Thanks so much to @steveoath @jonny @kisielk and @bradfromraleigh for your input. This is a great start to building my guitar sound + rig. All the best.

Nice tenor guitar

I’ve been enjoying playing my guitar though a trogotronic m277 then straight into the interface. Feels about as good as my old vox and no mic work.

I’ve got a Tech 21 VT Bass DI, that works very well for guitar as well as bass. Lots of gaining/etc. options, nice EQ and gain controls. And it sounds very good.

There are other similar pedals, though they don’t all have DI included.

My main recording and gigging setup:

Amp: Marshall DSL 401 [40w combo]

Pedals:

  • BOSS RT-20 Rotary [rotary organ simulator]
  • BOSS DD-7 [delay]
  • BOSS BF-2 [chorus]
  • BOSS PH-3 [phaser]
  • BOSS PS-5 [shifter]
  • TC Electronics Spark Mini-Boost
  • Dunlop Cry Baby Wah

Other: TC Electronics Aeon Sustainer

Not sure why I’ve ended up with so many BOSS pedals

My normal/minimal setup is

  • Fender Mexican strat HSS
  • Polytune
  • Digitech Digidelay (in setting 5 — mod delay, set to slapback)
  • Boss RE-20 Space Echo
  • Vox AC30 (into the front of the amp, not through effects loop)

I’ve had lots of other stuff over the years (phasers, overdrives, distortion, etc.), but the tap dance coordination and very deliberate gain staging you have to do with a lot of pedals as well as carrying them around is pretty cumbersome in my opinion.

I play a tele and an old archtop through Fender amps. My pedalboard was put together to be easy to use live and relies on a few basic functions. My sound ideal is quite traditional, ranging from old school soul to Neil Young.

Tuner
Skreddy Screwdriver (“OD/fuzz-like dist”)
Diamond Compressor
MXR Phase 45 (subtle modulation)
Diamond Memory Lane 2 (analog delay)
Strymon Flint (Tremolo/reverb)

On the board I also have a Subdecay Prometheus DLX which is more of special effect. Auto wah/filter either controlled by the envelope of my playing or by an LFO whose speed could be set using tap-tempo. It’s got sample&hold and “pixelated” things. Easy to be infatuated with, harder to use.

Rehearsing setups for the next gigs,
I need bread and butter sounds, a little bit of experimental ones.
Most importantly I’ll have very little time between the previous and the next evening’s acts.

From rehearsals:

To assembling:

Chain:
Fender Esquire > AC Noises Esplora (fuzz) > Eventide H9 Max > AC Noises Combatti (distorsion) > MXR Flanger > drolo Stamme[n] (freeze/glitch) > EHX Stereo Memory Man+Hazarai (delay/modulations) > EHX Cathedral (reverb) > Roland JC-120

No fx loop No stereo setup, only 2 cables.

This year I’ve not been in a band at all which is the first time in about 18 years so I’ve set everything up based around recording and being able to switch things about easily. I’ve also picked up a fender bass iv this year and set it up as a baritone. It sounds lovely

For past few months I lost interest in playing electric guitar so my main setup right now is some cheap alhambra knockoff. But my setup with electric guitar was:
Guitar:
Guyatone lg65t

Effects:

  • Ehx small clone (I like it very much, the only effect which could replace it for me would be Boss CE-1)
  • Zvex fuzz factory (another favourite it is like multiple fuzz pedals in one and it is no that hard to control)
  • Ehx memory boy deluxe (it also sounds really great with synths)
and sometimes I borrow Hall of Fame from my friend for reverb (I used zoom ms70cdr before but it doesn’t have true bypass and really changes the tone)

Amp:

  • most of the time I use cheap (costs around 40USD new) amp - Sounder GX30 - theoretically it has reverb but it sounds more like delay. I use it on clean channel only to amplify sounds from pedals so I did not care for distortion and other things in this amp.
  • sometimes I used my old Selmer Thunderbird Twin 30 amp from the crocodile period but it was too heavy and too big to carry it to most of the gigs. If I had money I would probably go with Vox AC15 (in my experience more than 15watts is not necessary in most gigs especially if you are not playing in a metal band).
  • also when practicing with one band I had been using Roland JC-120 and I loved its sound (that chorus is love) but again it would be impractical to carry such a big amp for live gigs.

Unfortunately I don’t have any pics but if somebody is interested how this setup sounds with Sounder amp then there is a recent video here:

Looking for some advice. I have purchased This Charvel Tele but the stock pups are rubbish. I have the replacements ready, but have never wired any before. Any advice would be appreciated. The guitar has 2 humbuckers, a volume pot and 3 way pup toggle. I have fired an email to the pickup manufacturer to see if they can help, but I suspect their wire colours are different to Seymour Duncan (unless I am misunderstanding sd’s wiring diags.

The wiring colour differs by manufacturer. The manufacturer should have wiring diagrams on their website.

Cool. Thank you. There are some pretty good guides on their website (Iron Gear pickups) so I’ll give them a look over the weekend.

Side note on the guitar. Dual humbuckers and a tune-o-matic bridge on a telecaster??? My dream guitar. The fact that it’s white was icing on the proverbial cake.

Looks like you should find what you need here: http://www.irongear.co.uk/irongear_pickups_027.htm

Really nice looking guitar. Charvels are great.

Too much stuff to photograph easily or neatly. So this is a quickie snap of my guitar corner. 3 green guitars, a 5 string Curbow fretless bass, way too many pedals (note that there are not one but two univibe clones on the floor), my trusty Mesa Boogie Mark IV, a vintage pignose, a ceriatone Dumble clone (green enclosure back in the corner), some kind of fender modeling amp on top of the dumble clone, and all draped with patch cords for sound dissipation effectoids. The TTSH is not guitar related. Or the easel. Most of the time. Not pictured is a Boss Katana amp, which is the best practice amp ever invented.

I’ve been playing in a gypsy orchestra recently and this is my current setup…

The guitar is an altamira M01d which is a low end model but with a decent setup it works great.

The acoustic amp is an S&R Jamm 100 and has phantom mic inputs, a mixer and a reverb built in. It works great as a mini PA for smaller gigs.

The clip on mic is a superlux cheapo one that sounds decent enough for live performances. Definitely better than a piezo.

It arrived today. I am so happy with it. My other “main” guitar is almost 20 years old, and this is almost like a different kind of instrument. I have been given wiring diagrams by iron gear, so should be good to go this weekend for rewiring.
