Just need to change the doepfer OSC and the telharmonic for a plonk and a STO and it’s done!

Few pics of my 22u Frac rig as it was, all parted out years ago. Don’t really miss it, especially now I have the Grandmother! Sold it all for ATCs monitors and Crookwood mastering console when we moved to Milan in 2011.

My intellijel 7U 104HP + 4U 84HP (controller boat)

main rack: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/677665
controller: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/602664

Main clock comes from digitone (not in picture), distributed via uMIDI 1U interface from intellijel in the rack.

Clock is also shared with the SQ-1 sequencing the ms-20 (when needed). Been thinking about getting an english tear, but never pullled the trigger. I know that the distings can do Hz/V … but yeah, i need them for other things

Current outboard FX, Keeley Caverns, Strymon Timeline, EQD transmisser (not in picture) and the space spiral. ms-20 has the Strymon el capistan (also out of picture).

A beautiful pairing. I have a dual tank spring reverb that I put mine through because I played with an ARP 2600 for a while and ever since then I’ve been obsessed with synths and spring reverbs!

Yes, exactly on point. Spring reverb and tape delay will make these old style monos really shine  . Sometime in the future i want to get an ekdahl moisturizer with the exposed spring tank for some live action… i think that would be a cool addition to any setup.

I got a Koma Elektronik Field Kit FX (with the expansion kit) for that very reason (i.e. the exposed spring tank) :slightly_smiling_face:

make sure you have 8hp available for that upcoming tetrapad expander

@petesasqwax Oh yeah, the koma kit. :upside_down_face: Those are really cool, man i missed the kickstarters. Are they still available or second hand only?

@ludvista29 Haha, I have 2x4HP blanks in the controller boat waiting to be pulled out for the expander

No, they’re available. I got mine from Juno (I’m in the UK) but I’m sure you can get them stateside or even directly from Koma

I can also recommend the Music Thing Modular Spring modules. I have had both the first version, and just got Mk. II That, together with a resonating filter with some drive, can get you quite close to Ekdahl country. Especially with the integrated feedback of the MK. II

This is great, do you lay everything out on a table and wire them all together?

Thanks for sharing your 7U/104. I’ve been considering one of those but have been having a hard time planning out what subset of my modules I’d put in it. I like that you have a separate skiff for sequencing and control too… seems like a great thing to pair with 7U of voices. Those Doepfer precision VCOs weren’t on my radar before (was thinking maybe Sinc Iter), but they sure would take up less space than my AJH VCOs

got a lucky deal on a black moddemix, one step closer to the self assembled B+G shared system! :stuck_out_tongue:

initial experiments with ring mod have been amazing- especially when ran into a plucky low pass gate, the results are like nothing I’ve been able to get before even with DPO’s built-in FM sounds.

I have the version one moddemix and sometimes amazed at how nasty some of the ring modulated sounds are. Sometimes it sounds like a cross between distortion and ring modulation.

I picked this up about a month ago, at a point when I had pretty much sold all of my gear. I’m tired of the endless GAS cycle and I plan on sticking with this for a long time. It feels very complete on its own and sounds amazing. Very difficult to make structured composed music with, but a lot of fun for exploration and “happy accidents.” The sound is very alive, for lack a better term, and has a heaviness and depth that I really appreciate - been able to evoke tones similar to an overloaded guitar cab before, electro-doom metal.

Haha, “need to get a case” was just a quip, I’ve had a 7u 84 HP for a while and it’s perfect. I needed to write down some serials for insurance reasons so everything happened to be out of my case and I snapped a picture. Here’s the full setup (including the 1u modules that weren’t taken out of the case earlier).

Just want to agree with you strongly on the moddemix points!

I know so many people that shoot it down.

Perhaps it is not the strongest VCA if all you wanna do is open and close it with an envelope. There’s a reason I have two black ones

Dope normalization & endless exploration.

Ah, this is a module i have missed. Thanks for the tip!

My pleasure. The separate controller skiff is key for me, during my jam sessions its hard to dive in-between the patch cables and find what i need to adjust on short notice, so getting the controller boat was a long term plan for me when finalising this first rack. The majority of real time tweaking is done with the planar2 and tetrapad, adding the tete expander will also help with automation going forward.

The Doepfer VCOs are really great, i use them for chords mainly… but of-course stand alone too if needed. Using 2x 1U Quadratt and the DTM mixer i can pretty much use any ot my sound sources simultaneously. 3xAnalogue VCO’s in just 12HP is pretty awesome, and yeah, they have dedicated LFO slow rate modes too if needed.

Hey guys! I’ve been following this thread for a while, just wanted to show up and be a bit more active on the forum from now on

I completed my handmade DIY case a week ago and just received my Plaits. My modular system aims to be flexible and portable, I love to integrate it with my actual workflow, which involves a lot of digital sound design. Modular is amazing, completely fits my vision of creativity and music!
