Wanted to show off my all DIY system. Built the case, cut the rails, built the PSUs, assembled all of the modules from panel/PCBs (minus the mutant snare and hexpander, they were kits). Pretty proud of it!

I’ve enjoyed seeing everyone’s systems here.

Your appreciation for switched OR-combiners warms my heart.

How do you like that Zadar? I’m in the market for an EG, and though I’ll likely start with a 1U module (only have one modular voice, at the moment, anyway), that one caught my eye as a future possibility.

looking beautiful w/20 characters!

I looove Zadar! Even though it’s menu-based, the menus never get too deep and I find it to be quite playable. Because there are four channels, you can have one for envelope, another for LFO, another as an audio rate oscillator, and the fourth one to modulate one of the other channels. Super versatile.

this has been so long in the making. the final module arrived this morning. the plan was altered in only one way and i am so grateful of universal intervention as the tiny system is much more flexible as an instrument this way. sine tracks like bloodhound affording great use of 1v/o oscillator duties otherwise unaccounted for in this system (when needed). the beauty of a simple sine wave is eerie, pure, thunderous.

Congrats! Looks (and undoubtly sounds) beautiful❤️

does it track 1/v at audio rates?

Good question!

From the manual: sensitivity of -50 for the Time parameter offers an approximate 1v / octave response.

As far as how many octaves does it accurately track, I don’t know.
The reply from XAOC in the MW thread was, “the response of cycle frequency to CV is variable, and you can set it to approximate 1V/oct, but accuracy of tracking is a question of how sensitive you are.”

perfect, you’ve got room for your 2 cold macs in there :stuck_out_tongue:

This is an amazing configuration, especially with the sloths. I have half a mind to replicate this haha

I love the look of Modcan’s stuff, especially the 5u. I’ve always wanted to get ahold of their dual frequency shifter in euro format but I’ve never seen one for sale.

Do you have any recordings from this system you can share?

@smbols thank you for the kind words!

the dual frequency shifter sounds great but it isn’t a holy grail type of thing imo. more of a few tricks pony. gets sound moving really nicely to a stereo field feeling and i also found it a lot more useful/fun than the analog one. this current system is a barest-bones-possible stripped proof of concept copy of my old workhorse that the album linked below is covered in (among other things) though dvdo was my old favorite vco.

Do it! It’s so much fun. The only thing I was thinking about changing is the 2 Hp Delay on the far right, I might try the Freezer or their Granular thing when it comes out. But that’s just window dressing, the Benjolin / Twinpeak / Sloth combo is where the magic is.

Nice! Listening to this now and it’s really good.

And yeah, as far as the frequency shifter goes, it’s less that I expect it to be a holy grail sorta thing and more that I just like frequency shifters in general and there just aren’t that many options on offer. But what I’d especially love to try with the Modcan is emulating the encoding and decoding of short-wave radio signals. Given its dual channels, it’d be a nice compact way to handle the up and down shifts and play with breaking things in between them.

again kindest thanks @smbols! i have an insane summon satan kinda patch up atm. wish i could help you find a dual freqshift as seeking modcan goes painfully slow. but a wonderful sort of search. reverb and muffs are easiest places and of course euro is probably 30x easier to search for than bigger buddies. i’ll keep my eyes peeled if you would like.

That looks tasty! Good to see you build that system and find your voice.
