Rearranged my small case into a pretty basic monosynth configuration last week. I wanted to dig into using Three Sisters as a more vanilla filter, if that makes sense, since I typically use it as a sort of resonator in physical modeling patches or as an oscillator.

It’s been surprisingly difficult to get anything I like out of it, but this morning I recorded a really nice bassoon-like piece. I’ve been using my Zoom H5’s mid/side encoder a lot recently, sending the wet output of my spring reverb to the sides to make a really nice and wide spacial effect and I love the sound of it.

Took a chance on the new Blue Lantern modular system, the Darpa 7200. I was out of modular for a little while because the tremendous cost and endless module choice got too intense over time. However I definitely missed the nature of it and spent the last couple months looking at every semi modular and self contained modular system I could find. This one really stood out to me because of how inexpensive yet fully featured it was. Solved both my problems. Only had it a couple days but having a lot of fun so far! I’m always posting little videos on my instagram page if you’re curious how it sounds.

That’s a nice patch. FWIW, I find Sisters shines best when working with at least a pair of input sounds. It manages their relationship well.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing with it. I also really like sending some feedback from the spring reverb back through one of its channels. The Lifeforms Primary Oscillator is a nice partner to it because the outputs of that module can be so wildly different from one another–in this patch I had the pulse out to the low pass, the timbre output (being modulated by the downsampled output) into the center, and a droning note from Dixie into the highpass.

I think I was just trying to make things too complex this week, wanting the system to wow me, and so the patches became too messy and unmusical (for my taste). This was the first one where I sat down and just decided to let things be simple and straightforward, and the result was much better.

How is the build quality of the modules? Any pros and cons of the system you have noticed so far. I would like to expand my Shared System in the future, but I also feel paralyzed by choice and would rather pick up a pre-built system. The price is really appealing.

Hey everybody!
Just started my own system this saturday, here’s what I got:

A reminder that you can use an extra chanel of Stages as another voice. :+1:

Build quality is stellar, no complaints here. The only con so far really is the fact that many of the modules don’t have manuals as of yet so there’s some guess work going on but besides Yarns there’s nothing too deep in here. The LFO’s seem like they’d have some extra functions given how many outs they have but I have yet to discover any deeper modes if those are even a thing… I sent Blue Lantern an email with some questions to no response as of yet but I’m assuming they are busy with Knob Con. But otherwise I’m quite happy with the system. Very simple but tons of flexibility in here. I haven’t even come close to scratching the surface. Happy to be back in modular even if just for a little while.

Damn that’s a nice design. It’s nice to see how Blue Lantern continue to improve their design throughout the years.
Looks like a fun system!

Are you referring to the harmonic oscillator Easter egg mode or is there a way to use just one ‘stage’ as a voice?

I meant one stage as a voice. I found that to be very useful myself. Expecially with the the ability to morph the waveshape, so you have a few tonal options.

This is an excellent reminder. I’d forgotten that the looping green lfos track v/oct! I wonder if a looping AD pair would go fast enough and track… will have to try.

all finished !!! after a few years of trial and error, i was finally able to build the synthesizer i had imagined. its a two voice synth thats tactile / performance oriented. it can also sample ( both audio and cv ) and its very fun and immediate. all in 84hp. the idea was to have a fun synth to play that could be live sampled in to my octatrack / norns / ipad setup. i also have an es 8 in a little lunch box so i can expand its in studio capabilities through vcv rack. hoping to replace the es-8 with crow hence the 2hp “blind panel” in the rack. the case is a 84hp koma case. i took the wood side panels off to give me some extra hp, along with mounting the power on the side. i used thick cardboard and wrapped it in Japanese gift wrapping paper. its pretty and lofi like the music i intent to make with it.

“Finished” my mini system this weekend (with 2hp reserved for crow). From left to right it’s a synth, from right to left it’s an experimental fx processor/drone machine. just friends holds everyones hand in the middle.

or at least that’s what I tell myself. So far I’m endlessly entertained by just using it as a drone machine or playing my case like a drum and sending ears to mimeophon.

One of two racks in progress. Mini rings, plaits and O_c coming today to fill gaps.

Other one is this, will be done Tuesday!

I’m away from my main system for a couple of weeks, so I brought this, which I am using with a piano. (The case is a Roland.)

I’ve been enjoying it so far. The piano is mic’d with an SM-57 through a Roland Go:Mix Pro (which has an XLR in). I’m running it through the 321 for additional amplification and then the MMF. I normally use the Go:Mix as my audio interface, which means I’m only getting mono recordings at the moment, but it’s fun to play with.

would love to hear something if you’re willing to share!

Happy to:

I don’t want to spam this thread, but there are a couple others on my Instagram as well. Intending to do more before I leave and lose access to a piano. :sob: (Even if I can only noodle, still a pleasure.)
