Nice, I have loved the sound of old Rolands and the slider-centric designs! My experience is limited primarily to Juno 6 and 60 plus SH101, never tried the modulars.

For sure, if you look at my instagram link a few posts afterwards you can see excerpts of the stuff I recorded. Sadly I needed to use my audio interface to run the mic, so my recordings are a little roughshod and mono, but I’m happy with the set. It was a fun setup for the purpose!

My studio is in transition at the moment, moved out of the tall racks and into a more portable solution.

Long in the works. Blackhole Cases in Dayton added a jack and switch so I could get a PSU internally. The Intellijel 4u84 is great but no lid is no good. Hoping to dig into this and potentially play west coast shows next summer with this little dude. Trying to sort out compact solutions for flying.

My current curation:

Melody, lately more for electroacoustics and percussive things.

Texture, lately more for drones and atonal things.

That dual sport mod / cold mac setup looks interesting! How do you find yourself utilizing those?

Just set it up, but plan to just zonk the modulation in all kinds of ways. I had a 4u84 with one Cold Mac but didn’t dip too deep beyond crosspanning. Been exploring some this week across cases with taking things to a deeper level, but no firm workflow in mind. No plan is the best plan

Nice!

Curious where you got the black Batumi and Poti faces…

You can find them at BKM Panels.

The photo shows my current Eurorack system, just one module, the Expert Sleepers ES-9 in a MMS 48X pod case. It connects software on my computer (VCV Rack and Ableton) with my semi-modulars (Mother-32 and Neutron) and whatever other modules I add in the future.

My thought was that I can use VCV Rack to cover most modular functions (LFOs, VCAs, envelope generators, quantizers, etc.) and just focus on adding analog oscillators and filters for now.

Is that a 1010 blackbox? Do you like it? Does it ‘click’ when looping samples?

How sturdy is the pcb material?

Thanks!

They are made of 2mm thick pcb material. I have a few of them and I’m really happy about stability and quality. Personally I find the layouts very nice and easy to read.

Didn’t feel any less sturdy than a powdercoated sheet of aluminum, when I put it into the rack.

They certainly look great in the MN context!

I’ve been considering a smaller 7u case. What make/model is that?

A custom 7U 65 hp one from Grau. Sadly it seems they’ve ceased operations.

The ES-8 was something like my second module (and still one of very few, now paired with the ES-6), and I’m definitely an advocate of this approach. This type of module is one the most useful as a first addition, particularly for anyone with odd bits of musical hardware and in need of an interface.

I love the look of the blackhole cases! Been pondering picking one up for similar uses.
