Yeah, they’re great! I’m a huge fan of something smaller and when he agreed to put the jack/switch in the side, I pulled the trigger.

There are a lot of issues with cases anymore. That starts with better power solutions, because I’d love to have a slightly bigger case perhaps, but not quite 84hp. Blackhole is doing a 60hp case, but I wasn’t super pleased with the power solution. The larger Intellijel PSU would need about 70-72 hp to fit in comfortably. I already have a MG plan for a 72 case after corresponding with Saw&Solder about a custom case shipped from England, but I really need to stop. I have my Monorocket 6u104, the Intellijel 4u42 and 4u84, and now this Blackhole 6u50. Sometimes I regret selling my Monorocket 6u90 honestly. I’ve always felt a bit overwhelmed with the 104, or that it’s less considered/cohesive? It felt so luxurious to have that extra 28 hp. I’m hoping this dabbling with the more compact approach might help me re-think the 104, or perhaps I’ll decide to ditch it after all.

I’m a bit of a Monorocket loyalist, but this Blackhole feels really nice too. Happy to support his pursuits to provide some good portable solutions. I wish more people built cases with lids and good power though. It seems the economics are pretty terrible for that part of the synth community.

Edit: I should say that Aaron is fantastic, and he was super patient walking me through options and discussing the jack/switch and all that. I can’t recommend more just reaching out to him and seeing what’s what. We need to encourage these case builders as much as possible

here’s the system i made for my Norns

I decided to get an intellijel 62 U for economy and i already had all the modules save for the three sis

here’s the other one. not as tweaked – just a shared sys with some weirdness but nothing insane

hows the squid treating you?

Love it, especially after running the main output through the MUM M8… instant mid 90’s vibe

Working on a patch. It seems like a good time to share my synth beast.

Looks like a really fun rig!

Continuing to tinker with the new little case. One of my W/s may be jacked, but otherwise having fun

How are you getting on with your Ooots, particularly the saturation? I ordered one on a whim since it seemed so feature packed for the HP.

Also picked up a Blackhole Case based on your recommendation either in this thread or another, so wanted to give thanks! It was a perfect fit for my needs and was honestly the last piece I needed to solve before committing to modular. I’ll be sure to post pics once I have it all set up.

i approve deeply of this symmetry

I’m wondering the same. Thinking of selling one of my 6hp mixers and getting this just because of the saturation, but I haven’t heard anything about it part from knob.farm himself.

The saturation is subtle, but does add a nice little bit of warmth to the whole mix. The more noticeable and, I think desirable, feature is the tilt eq. It is quite useful and can really shape whatever is coming out of your modular.

Awesome news on the Blackhole. Did you get the SubSix or something else? I honestly wish there was someone that made a 72hp case that I could fit the larger Intellijel power into. Still pondering. Something in between this and the 6U104 might be a good place, but I’m enjoying the constraints.

Ooots is great. I don’t know of a better output. I’ve heard good things about the WMD Pro Output, so that might be worth considering, but yeah - the saturation/tilt possibilities for a bit of sculpting of the output really appealed to me.

I went with the Six (60hp). I was previously looking to settle on the Make Noise skiff since it was still around the HP I wanted, I just had a preference for a square shape for ergonomics. I also wanted just a touch more room, and I think the 16 I get with the Six will be enough for some added luxury while still keeping me pleasantly restricted.

I’m relieved to hear that the Ooots delivers. I found it on accident while researching their Ferry module. Ended up putting Ferry on hold and went with the ooots as that need is more immediate.

That’s great to hear. I was interested in this as a feature, but didn’t expect it would have quite as much of an impact on the final sound.

Yeah, I think the power situation made me nervous about the Six. Floating cables are dicey. I wish there was some reliable power solution between the smaller and larger Intellijels that could slot in there. If I knew I was going to only use big modules, I’d have gotten the 60hp case and put in my extra Intellijel power board rather than the 50. Makes me ponder though because if I were to get a complex oscillator or something, that immediately eats 20-30 hp and immediately sort of compensates for the 10 jacks on the Intellijel board.

That was the main drawback in my eyes. I justified it since it’s a smaller case and should handle my planned modules. It will only be half full for the foreseeable future while I learn my initial modules, so I have time to see how the floating cables do. I can always swap them for a board before I fill it up if I notice issues. I’ll let you know how it goes once I get some time with it.

A while ago I had planned out my dream system and it ended up being exactly 72 hp 6U. I had an IKEA Rast rack and ended up cutting it down from 84 Hp and got some 72 hp rails from Erthanvar (rip). Somehow 72 just feels like the perfect size!

I borrowed an Doepfer LC-9 case from my friend and I can finally have all my modules in one case (except OD ER-101 and ER-102 as I managed to almost max PSU2 without anything in 3rd row).

From a live performance recently.
Almost full now, which feels like a relief. Last things to get will probably be a LEDRover and a Tete (when it comes out).
