That’s right! Was an easy mod to do, and feels way more slick having all jacks at the back haha.

So far, I’m pretty happy with this current version of my case. Swapped out my Black Hole DSP v1 for mimeophon and it’s just dandy. Lots of power and possibilities in front of me here. Still toying with the idea of grabbing a dedicated euro sequencer but I’d have to sacrifice some serious real estate to do so.

does crow and ansible leave you wanting for something sequencer-wise? what do you feel is missing from that sequencer combo?

I’m not totally sure. I really enjoy using them, but for my live performances (which are 99% unimprovised), I gravitate towards my OP-Z/mutant brain combo. At home in the studio experimenting and recording; ansible and crow work great. Eloquencer really Sparks my interest, as I can have some more channels to drive the 301.

Have you considered the five12 vector sequencer? My setup has some overlaps to yours and I found the VS useful for when I want to quickly dial in a melody so I can put that aside while focusing on other things. Easy to change things up also.

I’ve been hesitant to share my system due to the jankiness of the cardboard case, but I’m also kind of proud of how it turned out. This is my second iteration on the case and it’s much cleaner than the first attempt.

The most recent changes were replacing a Make Noise Wogglebug with a second Mangrove and a ALM Beast’s Chalkboard with the 4ms Rotating Clock Divider and Monome Crow. Overall, I’m feeling pretty happy with where the system is now. The next improvement will definitely be a nice wood case!

Lately I’ve been sampling drum sounds from the modular into my Digitakt. Some day I will record and share a track. Some day…

Went with 5u despite having like zero room for it. Got a dotcom box11, an Envelope++, and VCA2++. Currently using the Moog MF-102 Ring Mod as my oscillator, keystep converting midi from my MPC Live to clock, gate, and pitch cv.

Next module has to be a proper oscillator because the ring mod pitch accuracy is not the greatest. Get about an octave before I start losing a semitone here and there. Wish I hadn’t sold my freqbox :stuck_out_tongue:

After 4 years and an up and down-size, I feel like I finally have a synth that’s complete* and pretty much perfect for me!

Probably the weirdest thing about it is the fact there are 6 cinnemag transformers (:sweat_smile:) with the 3 rips (2 1u exi[s]t) but I really like the way they fuzz out, and it might be placebo, but I do think the pedals (or norns) sound really good sent and returned to them (also nice to have 6 outs when I need it, and the fact they can be made to be ins because they are bi-directional.

I have crow i2c connected to 301 and just friends. I really, really like crow because it makes computer integration really easy when I want to do that, and I can also write a script for standalone sequencing if I want to not use the computer. I love the m4l devices especially.

I also have norns and a nanoKONTROL2 which I wrote a little app so that I could control my 301 with it. That’s really nice to have, because it frees up the vca/attenuators/stages to allow for more complex things other than providing offset knobs.

I think it can be hard to strike the balance between, control, modulation and sound sources and also have it feel like a complete “instrument”…and when I had two cases, I just felt like I was spending too much time trying to build two self-contained systems I wasn’t really being creative with them, more just getting bogged down in building synths.

Also for me, I think at this point I prefer to settle in with deep things and learn their quirks over time, rather than swap in and out and get new stuff all the time. I feel like there’s so much depth (and also new things being built by the community) with a lot of these that I should have new territory to explore for years (and that is the plan…don’t buy or swap anything).

The thing I am saddest about is teletype…I don’t think I can sell that though (on long-term loan to a friend and bandmate rn), too many good memories (and also too much work on the web docs haha).

*currently left:

  • my u3a build seems to have +10v of offset on channel 3, did some debugging last night but can’t figure out any problems…waiting to hear back from the person who makes them.
  • once thonk starts shipping to the US again, I’ll pick up some sifam knobs for the two 1u mannequins RIPs in the top left corner.

Sure! I use it for all sorts of things.

  • another mixer/sound attenuator
  • self patched self modulating complex oscillator (infernal oscillator on channel 1, aux -> channel 2 in)…you can get some interesting waveshapes.
  • oscillator also can be through zero fmd which can sound cool.
  • I like the red and orange algorithms close to the middle for creating like “hair” high frequency noise on a sound
  • syncing modulation to algo can also create some nice rhythms coz there are peaks and valleys in the amplitude of some of the algorithms
  • it’s really nice for feedback patches with the attenuators, very easy to get into chaotic territory but tame it back so it’s not overwhelming.

It’s also nice because it’s one of the modules that has less of a “I have to think a lot about what’s going on” vibe like a lot of what I have… I think a balance of both is good for getting the creative juices flowing. You patch up two sound sources and sweep the algo and timbre knobs til you happen upon something that sounds cool. The different algorithms being on a knob like that was the best idea.
