How are you liking the MMF? I’ve been torn between that and an LxD. I’d probably primarily use it as a LPF/HPF but I’m worried about not having the option of an LPG in my system.

If you’re not familiar with the Meng Qi DPLPG, check it out. It’s a dual 1-pole vactrol based LPG / VCA module that only takes 2 HP space, and requires no power supply. It sounds great, and it’s easy to squeeze in your case.

I’ve been wondering, how is it in comparison to the LxD? I’ve actually been itching for a way to get 2hp in my rack, and taking the LxD down to the DPLPG would help make that happen.

Well less options, with a sound that maybe falls somewhere in between the -12db and -6db on the LxD? But you can use 2 DPLPG instead of a single LxD and not worry about open power headers, etc.

Redoing the main rack, it looks kind of empty right now. There’s a mixer, a TipTop rack, a skiff with morphagene/clouds, Ekdahl Moisturizer (love it), and a 2-tier Moog rack with Mother 32 and maths etc.

Here’s my system, 2 84 hp cases (SanSan). I run this with an iPad, I am pretty comfortable with it but Lubadh is struggling to find its place as there’s a lot of loopers on the iPad I’ve discovered and am not finding much use (yet) to have the cv ctrl for a looper.

very different things. get the MMF if you want a resonant filter with self-oscillation feature and 1v/oct input. but the ping input isn’t like on a LxD, since it pings the cutoff only, the signal’s output level stays the same. second the advice about DPLPG - it’s good value, especially if you have a buffered mult to drive it from.

Ah, could you explain what you use the buffered mult for with the DLPG? Is it because it doesn’t like unbuffered signals from maths and similar circuits to open?

I think it would work great with a Mutable links, you can use the buffered mults and mix the 2 channels afterwards.

Definitely try this for yourself.
Ordinarily an input has high enough resistance to take the voltage from an output but not the current - in effect transferring voltage, but not power. Without a buffer, consuming that signal (current) would cause the voltage to drop, whereas an opamp would prop it back up, drawing from its own power supply. I could be wrong about all this, but it correlates with my experience with going to the LPG’s CV directly or through a buffer.

I’ve never used a buffered mult with the DPLPGs and have not had any issues at all. That said, I am now curious to try this and listen to the difference!

this all varies from LPG to LPG…

I really like my mystic circuits 0hp LPG. It can be had for 23 as a kit or 33 assembled (and the kit is perfect for a first soldering project) It sounds great to my ears, though I’ve never owned another vactrol-based LPG.

This is what I’ve been hacking on for the past 2 years, what I’ve been calling my easel ambient. At first I was trying to build up my own version of something like a Buchla music easel. I wanted a marbles for a while, but I do like my Wogglebug (minus the audio outs, which have always been useless for me). And I can get the turing-machine-ness generative patterns out of my teletype or disting in shift register mode. I use stages for short buchla-esque sequencer, as well as for LFOs and for AD (rarely do I do the whole ADSR). I use morphagene in almost every patch, essentially as a bed, for texture or delay, and for harmony - essentially as a second complex voice if you will. I have two Takaab modules: the Dual LPG, which I was hoping would eliminate need for a dedicated filter (decision is still out on that one. thinking I should also get a dedicated VCF?), and the Nearness, which is an incredible panning mixer. I love it. Technically I should have 2hp left in my skiff, but somehow looks like I have 3 or 4hp left. Is that possible? Are one of my modules smaller than stated on modulargrid?

Not sure how to fill that last little bit. Thinking filtering or a 2hp pluck or another disting for another dedicated sampler?

Pluck is really cool. Mine may have stopped working, but it was fun for a while!

The last time I sent it CV and gate it did nothing. Need to try again then get in touch with 2HP.

Got a 54HP Pulp Logic case going. My first experience with 1U tiles, which includes hooking up an expression pedal for the first (and definitely not the last) time (youtube.com/disquiet for a one-minute proof of concept). Having trouble getting TXb to play nice with the ER-301 and the 16n, but I’ll figure it out.

Apologies if I missed this mentioned previously, but what’s that speaker?
