finally getting somewhere musical with my setup! Next step is a mimeophon and some drums! (And perhaps a mixup or two to help sum things together)

I really like the way you have the quadrants laid out…I’d always thought of audio horizontally and CV vertically but this gives me
some interesting ideas.

I’d counsel being strategic with euro drums. Samples can be sequenced easily in the DAW, and whatever drum module you choose should be expressive and unique. The only drum module I ended up keeping after I tried to make Euro do everything was Akemie’s taiko. To each her own, just my experience!

Thanks! I like this layout a lot but it is not great for actual playability/live tweaking (loving my 0-ctrl for this). I often have to move several patch cords out of the way whenever I want to turn a knob or patch something else. It does work wonders for doing patch programming sort of things where once you implement the functionality you want then kind of don’t touch it or control it via CV.

I know you posted this a long time ago, but I’m planning something very similar. Did the ES-9 fit ok in the 48X case from 4MS? Or did you have to use risers or some other creative solution to get it in? I’m planning to use a 48X to hold an ES-9, FH-2 and expanders, and a mordax Data, to create sort of a desktop connector rack or things that I’d only really need if my rack is at my desk. I’ve seen conflicting stories about how well the 50mm ES-9 fits in the 48X though.

What are your thoughts on the VPME QD? I felt the same way about Euro drums, but the QD really seems to fit so much in such as small package that it might be worth the cost/HP. I was never really planning on doing drums in rack, but with 4 drum voices and built in LFOs, it could be cool to get some basic beats to structure all the weird stuff

I was actually just thinking of the QD! I really wanted one while it was in post announcement pre release purgatory and was actually thinking of getting one since it can do FM and sampling. Looks very versatile.

Yeah, to me it seems like the most efficient way to get sufficient drums into a smaller system. You need triggering and sequencing, sure, but you can get around that. I can’t see another way to get so much drum versatility into my 7U 104 HP. If I hadn’t just picked up a digitakt, I think I’d be ordering one haha.

I’d personally encourage the ALM Busy Circuits Squid Salmple for drums.

I’d say read the specs of both case and ES-9 Very carefully, and allow space for busboard/flying bus, too.

All the Expert Sleepers modules I’ve seen are pretty deep. My gut feeling is you’re unlikely to get an ES-9 to fit in one of the 4MS boxes (even the deeper “X” ones), but I may be wrong.

I’ve got 2 rows @ 100hp of drums/trigs and it’s probably the favorite part of my system. Probably because of the instant gratification factor. Definitely not efficient on space though. I thought the other day after checking out the prok modules “I could swap out my hexinverter modules (taking up 52hp) for 16 hp!” Later said to myself, “nah.”

ES-9 does fit in the X pod

(Edit) Most X pods!

Cool @dangriffiths, that’s good to know!

They have very different sounds. If you’re a fan of low-fi digital, though, the Pr0k drums are worth getting, in addition to the analogue ones.

I used some 2mm washers (laser cut from acrylic) between the panel of my es-9 and the 48x to make sure it didn’t bottom out. It would have been very tight without them and I wouldn’t have wanted to tighten the screws that way. (I then put washers under all other modules so that I didn’t have a weird 2mm difference in panel heights but that was just for aesthetics). Worked fine.

I also had an ES-9 in a 4ms X pod. Worked out fine without standoffs or anything.

Note that strangely the pod x series have different depths. I’m now using 34x which has 4mm more depth than 48x.

i did not know this! the pod that i housed my ES-9 in was a 40x, which has a 51mm depth.

I had no problem fitting the ES-9 into a 4MS Pod48X.

There’s an Intellijel Atlantis off to the side in a pod too…
