No need to state an intention, although I do think it contributes to a feeling of public commitment if you do.

No samples, original melodic stuff for december? I’m in!

Inspiration hit everyone yet?

Got an idea for modular v guitar that I’m going to explore. Hopefully be able to evoke the December mood!

Not inspiration so much as perspiration so far. But my studio is looking really organized and tidy right now!

I’m hoping to find some inspiration from @josephbranciforte’s recent NewMusicBox post, which I haven’t finished reading yet:

My studio is a mess - after half of it was ripped out and taken to the other side of London for a gig at the weekend. Now have to rebuild and rewire it… might have a rethink on he ergonomics while I am at it.

Not my entry - but an experiment in that direction… using a Disting in echo mode to derive new sequences by echoing the CV rather than the audio. I used the main sequence unadulterated as the ground bass…

Bumping as a friendly reminder mainly for myself.

Was just going to say “it’s November!” I have to admit I’ve been working more on the studio than on the music. Need to flip the switch on that.

How’s it coming along for everybody?

I think I will be ready to start in a week. I am, unusually for me, trying to plan what I’d like to do as I have never mixed guitar with the modular before. And I need to update the Batumi to new firmware for some random and finish my radio music build!

Hoping then to do some lofi/trip hoppish jamming with STO on bass, radio music on drums, rings on lead and my guitar on rythym duty.

My work on this today went a bit “modern classical”… I wanted it to have a feeling of being a celebration of the end of one thing and the start of another, a combination of sadness at the dark and joy at the year to come, and I wanted it to have the warmth of being with your loved ones. The traditional solstice celebrations in ancient Britain very likely involved bringing the bones of the ancestors out of the burial mounds, and celebrating the coming of the sun with them, so the openign and coda have a sort of funeral march feel - though the piece is written in the unusual time signature on 7/4. The middle section includes a canon in three parts.

Ok - so here is the score. I have spent some time creating midi files, adjusting tempo changes, and playing it with different instruments and synths… but what actually worked best in the end was downloading some new soundfonts for MuseScore, then recording multiple versions using each different soundfont, and then layering them up with some reverb in Acid Pro. It’s as close as I am going to get to having a real string / wind section play it unfortunately.
