Nick Angeloni is a composer, audio engineer, pianist and synthesist who releases work under the name @n-So.
This one has been in the works for a while ā Nickās fantastic A Stroke of Blue was one of my favorite albums of 2018 and ever since then, weāve kept in contact through PMās. We wanted to wait until there was a new collection of work, which has been recently released ā an expansive artifact that perfectly captures his unique talents for composition and experimentation, Out of the Valley.
One of the hallmarks of Nickās work is the careful balance of felted piano and electronics, which creates accessible moments that twist in just the right way. Depending on the listener, the shiny thing could be the unexpected textures, or it could be a chord that perfectly roots an ambient soundscape.
Speaking with Nick, I was reminded how tense the balance is between will + self-care. Nick is an incredibly talented and driven artist, and it was staggering to hear him talk openly about the challenges he faced while trying to finish this work. And to confirm that coming out of the valley isnāt a momentous break of clarity ā itās small moments of grace, of the universe wanting to heal whatās hurting. I am grateful for Nickās honesty, artistry, and perseverance.
This episode was lovingly assembled and edited by @mattlowery. Iām so super thankful for his willingness to give his energy and expertise toward this project and toward the community. He shaped a super compelling narrative arc from two hours of raw audio, which further proves his skills as both an artist and technician.
Hope yāall are having a nice weekend
