Cool! So to reiterate, soo so so sorry for this. It can send AND receive?

I’m nearly ready to have an Hermod. What cable are you using from the OP-Z to connect to Hermod ? I’m a little worried about the power drain if I take the usb cable…
If I use a Keystep, what will the power draw addition ?

Yes, it can do both.

then squarp it is in my case!

I just added Hermod to my system and was trying to update the firmware to 1.42. Following the procedure as instructed resulted in no change: I dragged the file as downloaded onto the SD card, but the version remains the same.

Am I missing a step?

I’m not sure.

Download the .bin file (make sure it’s unzipped but not I binned), copy to root of SD, boot up Hermod with encoder pressed… and that’s it.

Yeah, then I feel silly. Skimmed over the bit about holding the encoder when booting. I’ll try again tomorrow. Thanks!

Anyone using Hermod as a USB Device that has had trouble with USB ground loop noise? I’m going direct from laptop -> Hermod and there’s a pretty noticeable noise that I can’t shake no matter which port I use. Is there a better cable I can use (I’m just using the one that came with one of my MIDI keyboards at the moment)?

I had a Hermod about a year ago, and I did a bit of testing and found that it always introduced noise, even when I didn’t have anything plugged into it. It was racked in an Intellijel 7U case. I eventually bought a pod specifically for the Hermod. I know I’ve see at least one other person on this forum confirm that they had a similar issue, but I cannot find that post now.

This may or may be not be what you’re encountering, but an additional data point nonetheless.

I did some testing and it’s definitely the USB that’s introducing the noise. Otherwise my rig is dead silent when patched. TipTip Audio Mantis case if that matters.

I’m happy to hear it. Thought I’d chime in just in case. Good luck finding a solution!

Thanks! That’s good to know in general. I love the Hermod, so I hope this doesn’t end up being a dealbreaker.

Are you powering separately your laptop ?

Just saw this thread it could be the response for your problem :

Try different USB cables. Mine got significantly better with some cables more than others.

I have always wondered about good vs bad usb cables in general.

I switched USB cables and it decreased the noise somewhat, but it’s still there. Probably going to try the USB isolator (thanks @yunsnare) solution next to see if that brings it to zero. At the moment I’m using a notch EQ at 2.1kHz and 3.2kHz which gets rid of it in the recording at least.

anyone know if they’re going to bring back the white faceplate, or if it’s black only from now on?

I asked squarp recently and this is the answer I got:

White panel isn’t available for the moment, we ordered a few amount before the actual events and we still do not know when we will receive them.
Considering this, I can not tell you when they will be on the webshop again, i’m sorry about that !

They also confirmed that there aren’t any small internal changes, just aesthetics. Last but not least, if you’re set on white I saw Detroit Modular had an open box white edition for sale. I’m sitting on my hands but am considering one as my next purchase.

I noticed noise from my Hermod with no usb plugged in. Digital modules - urgh

I had this issue with a fairly recently manufactured Hermod in an Intellijel 7u case while using my OP-1 to input MIDI via USB. It drove me crazy.

I dug through the ol’ bin-o-cables and found a USB cable with a pretty large ferrite bead right at the USB-A end and it completely eliminated the noise (audibly anyway, never recorded the system at this point or checked outputs on a scope).

I remember chuckling because it seemed like such an obvious and crude solution. It didn’t save the Hermod from being sold, but I was relieved to find it wasn’t specific to my Hermod or OP-1.
