two times we (dan derks and jonathan snyder) have been tickled beyond belief to deliver the norns/habitus workshop.
now we are tickled yet again to announce we are bringing the workshop to northern Europe. come join us in Stockholm to explore field recording and programing with norns. dwelling together, we will develop new habits of coding and musical practice through experimentation, research, and the exercise of daydreams.
the Stockholm edition of the habitus workshop will be taught by jonathan and @infinitedigits at Blivande in the Frihamnen port area.
@smonthms we don’t currently have plans to come to other cities but i think it is very likely this will happen at some point in the not too distant future. also, while waiting for our future travel plans to materialize, if there are any folks interested in gathering together for a norns related event, we would be happy to consult on the agenda. this would also be a great opportunity to try out the new collaborative norns script semicondutor that was recently published (cough shameless plug cough).
i am curious where folks like to go for evening hangouts in Stockholm. Zack and i will be staying in Östermalm but i imagine we shouldn’t have too much trouble finding our way around town. <3
Södermalm is probably the hippest district, but there are bars all over so it shouldn’t be too tricky to find a place. Östermalm probably makes sense as it’s in the direction of the workshop venue. Omnipollos Flora might work in Humlegården? Or we could just get folköl and sit in the park and enjoy the near-midnight sun
Edited to add: I’m way more familiar with Västkusten than Stockholm, so I would absolutely welcome recommendations from people who actually live in the city! Just throwing out a suggestion to get the ball rolling
Seriously considering, I could easily be able to travel without flying… needs just some life-management. I’ve been past that place multiple times on my way to and from the Stockholm→{Helsinki, Turku} ferries, but never actually paused at the harbours. Cool.
(this is a new norns script that I’m working on that was partially the result of all the cool discussions and engagements at the last habitus workshop. actually, now that I’m thinking about it, graintopia was also the direct result of preparing for the last habitus workshop. just saying…inspiration is easy to come by at habitus…)
would be so great if you made it! your expertise and input is always so perfect.
soft-serve ice cream! I’m in
not atm, but I wish. I hope Stockholm isn’t too far to make it from London…
it looks like there are lots of hotels for $100-150/night. some for even less than that. there is also airbnb. i could imagine a few folks coming in from out of town might want to share an airbnb. a bit presumptuous, but i also imagine there might be folks living in the area with an extra room or couch they’d be willing to lend to someone traveling for the workshop. <3
we have a guest room, any one who’s coming from out of town and are on a budget are welcome to stay. in my dad’s house there’s also a guest apartment which i can see if it’s available. i believe it’s something like $30/night with several beds (not sure about the exact details). pm me and i’ll see what i can do.
@infinitedigits and i are getting more and more excited by the day to come see y’all in Stockholm in just under a month!!!
at the moment, i am in hailuoto, finland busy trying to figure out what i am going to do for the performances we have scheduled (details will be posted very soon!)
we do have a number of spots still open for the workshop in stoockholm. so if you have been thinking about joining us but have some questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
similarly, if you are concerned about the cost, please message me direct as i am completely confident we can work something out so you can join!
