Its a neat idea to use the Row power jumper for the Switch. Is it possible to connect power into Switch from the rear? I’m thinking a case with all the power cables coming in from the back would be nice.

you could hard solder an external jack and route it internally. i’ve considered doing this with my other case.

so stoked. tonight all my monome modules and power supplies arrived plus a mangrove and inteli unity mixer. awaiting ginko sampleslicer and already racked was phonogene optomix and function. not so strong in standalone category but depending on how much control i can render from ww+es+switch and my trusty 128…

yup i’m stoked.

Probably a silly question, but what do you mean by “jumper reduces your power brick count”? How do I do this? I’m new to modular. Thanks :smile:

i made a barrel-barrel connector so that only one capably-powered brick plugs into both the euro 40ms power and the switch power-- shown in the photo at the top!

Anyone try this with the Row Power 30 instead/as well? I’m guessing both the row power 30 and 40 use the same power brick - so if I’m not mistaken, shouldn’t this work with that as well despite the lower 5v ability of the row power module itself?

this should probably be fine, but you may experience some weirdness if you start to light up a lot of the grid. worth testing out.

FWIW, I’m using a Row Power 30 for my little sidecar. No problems here, though I’ll probably bump to a 40 to play it safe. (I’m done with power-related wierdnesses!)

I have a Row Power 40 for a 6U 84HP, with all the Monome modules, plus some Mutable Instruments and Harvestman (including a Malgorithm, which is a bit of a power bad boy in other systems), and I haven’t noticed any strange behaviour. So I assume a Row Power 30 should be enough for a 3U plus a grid.

is there an easy solution to connect Switch to the intellijel psu TPS80W mentioned above? would love to have one less brick, but I’ve already fried my grid once with unstable power, so I want to play it safe.

FWIW I’ve run the grid from the TPS80W for a long time and never had any problems. (I did recently fry a couple of my monome modules but that was due to a faulty cable and another power supply… )

That being said, you could wire the switch up to the second set of power lugs on the TPS80W. You’d just have to carefully solder some wires to the right pins of the barrel connector of the switch and then run them to the power lugs.

I’m never quite sure with electronics

is it necessary to use switch to avoid damaging my equipment?

earthsea is the only one of 9 modules which requires 5v
